South Devon Culinary Cruise - 16th August
Saturday 16th August will see the first Culinary Cruise head off along part of the South Devon Coast.
Meeting from 12:30 and departing at 13:00 from the Breakwater Fort in Plymouth, those assembled will head East towards Salcombe, sweeping the bays and enjoying the scenery.
Afternoon tea will be taken in Salcombe, no fixed venue, its what ever suits the crew on the day. There's great pasties from The Bake House, a regular Pasty Run venue (not this year though).
Fish and chips or pizza options are available along with crab sandwich's and a traditional high tea at the South Sands Hotel if that's the preferred choice along with a myriad of other options in the town.
We'll depart 90 minutes after landing and head further East, with Dartmouth being the next port of call.
The Dartmouth Yacht Club will be the next stop, tea and biscuits or a cold pint of choice will be available from their bar or crews will be able to head over to an ice cream stall of choice.
60 minutes after landing we'll again head East, aiming for the overnight stop in Torquay.
There's an MDL marina or the Town Quay to book a visitors mooring on for the evening for those that wish to enjoy a social evening ashore.
The Torbay Yacht Club will be available for food, drinks and social entertainment. They do allow dogs in the main bar and on the terrace. If need be we can book food or simply enjoy their bar menu.
Sleeping aboard or picking anything from an Air BNB to a 5* hotel there are plenty of options to choose from if you don't want the return leg the same day. A number of us have booked the Burlington Hotel.
Sunday morning will see a leisurely start with a coffee at Below Decks (time TBC) before heading back to Salcombe for tea and biscuits and then finally back into Plymouth late lunch time for a final cake stop at Weir Quay for those with any room left!!

Bakehouse pasties are still good - had one on a run down to Salcombe weekend before last .
I'll plan to be away 1130ish so expect to meet you somewhere around Bolt Tail.
Many boats joining you from Plymouth?

If we can get ashore - there's a regatta on at Salcombe so it could be busy pontoon wise.
I think there should be a good flotilla heading over, will hopefully get around the double figures me thinks.

Hi Andy,
That will be a good turnout.
Might be worth a call to Salcombe HM with that number - suggest we can tie up most boats deepwater and use just 1 to ferry people to Normandy pontoon. It 30 min max stay and does get crowded.
What working channel do you suggest?
Bob

Morning
I've spoken to them and its going to be pot luck on space. There is a regatta on and they won't assign a mooring for us before arrival as they could be busy. Worst case is we send one ashore for cake and jump on to Dartmouth for walk ashore stops.

Saturday evening is confirmed at Royal Torbay Yacht Club - bar menu is available.
Should anyone at Plymouth fancy breakfast before departure, we will be at the Mayflower Marina from around 10.30 - with people launching at Oreston and Mount Batten, please do drop in the comments if you're using the facilities that side (The Galley or The Bridge or The Mess Room).

Now a Bakehouse in Dartmouth as well as Salcombe so maybe a late pasty there if Salcombe is too busy.
Knowing you you'll have a few emergency pasties tucked away on Nutkin!
I see wind's now picking up for Sat - 18kts Easterly

Its a bit blowy, but sea state still pretty much ok and tucked in under the coast, which was the plan, plenty sheltered enough.
Start Point could be entertaining

Folks
At present there is still an Easterly F4 forecast for the weekend.
By hugging the land we should be fairly sheltered on the trip East and oddly enough the sea state inshore doesn't look too bad.
My intention is to proceed and if the land hug doesn't work, head back to Plymouth and travel over to Torquay by car to enjoy an evening out

The illusive pasty still reigns.
The forecast ended up being F5 gusting 7 with up to 2.2m wave heights, so we did the sensible thing - went and looked
At times it was huge, massive slabs of water being blown at you which were gently navigated, other points it was fun, launching the 6m Highfield Patrol into the air as if it was a kids toy.
Either way, there was no way we were going far so teh three boats that did get out had a lovely play in and around Plymouth Sound and recovered for the drive down to Torquay and a great evening, in superb company at the Yacht Club.
Plan C it is then as so far that's two from two blown outr

Glad you had a good evening in Torquay.
It was so fresh with Easterly F5-6 blowing into on Torbay on Sat that I didn't even take the boat off the dock. There was nothing out at all and the wind was even stronger on Sunday - again no leisure craft out- but nice out of the wind.
Dare I say forecast is however looking good for next Sat!
