doh...got the dates wrong. Saturday is the 28th!

If the Saturday am def up for it. If the Sun, possibly but have a party in Portsmouth Saturday evening, so probably not, will have to see.

Not too sure what your all on about. But just got back from sailing a boring raggy in Scotland and want to register my interest for the 28/29 October. My Engine has to go in on Monday for some work but that should be finished by the end of the week. Then I'll be wanting some sea time. Can some one post an itinery ?

Okay,

Got my boat back, nothing wrong with it, just me worrying. So now I'm ready to go.

Because I haven't been to either Brighton or Poole would anyone like to take the lead on this.

If not I can make a plan for Littlehampton, although that is not as long a trip as Brighton and the facilities in the town are not as good as Yarmouth, although the moorings are excellent. Thats my own personal knowledge anyway. Must admit I fancy a trip to Poole or Weymouth as well.

I'm going to refuel the boat this week and await any feedback !

I vote poole, based on the fact I won't make it to Brighton! Seriously, Poole is such an amazing place, I would love to go there in a RIB. Been there so much with the rents in their rag and stick boat. I guess yarmouth would make a good break stop on the way for those coming from soton/pompy.

Poole's pretty good. The harbour will be almost empty by then too if you fancy doing a line-up. There's pubs and eateries of various descriptions within 100 yards of the quay and should be fuel on the barge if it's still there(at extortionate prices) and at Salterns (also extortionate). Joe's Cafe on Studland beach should be open too. Don't know if the Shell Bay Seafood Restaraunt will still be open.

It's probably worth staying a bit offshore on the way down from the island if there's anything over f4 and the tide's running-Christchurch ledge can get rather unpleasant. After that it's just beach-hugging to the entrance-or pick up the end of the Training Bank at the beacon or the bar buoy and follow the main channel all the way in to the quay.
Don't go in between the channel buoys near the beach and the bar buoy when coming from the Solent-Hook Sands are not nice. (thats erring on the side of caution -you'll probably be able to see breaking waves over the sands) Google earth the harbour and you can see all the places to avoid.

Low tide in Poole is around 10.00 GMT that day (Low is approx the same as Dover-(High is an odd double high) so don't deviate to port from the main channel on the way in inside the harbour if you're arriving around this time-there's a sandbar there which isn't always obvious.

Oh, and don't cross the harbour entrance in front of the chain ferry unless you can give it a wide berth-the chains are taught and not far under the surface.

Looks like Poole it is then.

Like last time gather off Cowes at 1030 hrs. For all those coming from East of Cowes.
Approx' 1200 hrs arrive off Yarmouth just to see if we can make it to Poole with regards weather etc.
1330 hrs arrive Poole for lunch etc.

1500 hrs depart Poole and head back to Cowes etc.

All these timings are provisional and done off the top of my head so may be way out.

I am quite happy to sort out the passage down to Yarmouth but would appreciate someone with more local knowledge coordinating from Yarmouth to Poole.

Matt would you like to sort out an eatery once we get a bit more sorted with numbers.

All I can find out at the moment is that from the middle of this month its going to start getting down to the temperatures it should be for this time of the year.

I'm not sure I'd be able to make it down there and back on one tank, does anyone know if the fuel barges will definately be open?

Do you have room for spare fuel cans? If not, I could carry them for you... just in case..

I will be filling up in yarmouth just to make sure I leave there on a full tank

I do not think the fuel barge will be open, but however fuel can be obtained from Salterns Marina or Cobbs Quay.

Just done a quick route on Mapsource and it says its 24 miles from Yarmouth to Poole. Hope that helps in your planning. I can carry spare plastic fuel cans for you if required.

For Planning Purposes I suggest the following Waypoints for forming up.

1030 hrs. Off Cowes. Gurnard Black/Yellow Buoy - N50 46.191 W1 18.819.

1200 hrs Off Yarmouth. Yellow Buoy (In location April to October so may have been removed) - N50 42.889 W1 29.485.

A more detailed list of Waypoints will follow as the plan expands.

I can plan a route from yarmouth to Poole but this will be done straight from mapsource and I have no knowledge of the best route to take so would appreciate it if some one else could supply those waypoints.

An estimate of distance from Cowes RV to the top of Poole Harbour is 30 Nautical Miles one way. I should be able to do this on one tank but I will be carrying 25 litres spare in plastic fuel cans that I will start to put in at Yarmouth and finish whats left over at Poole. Just so I don't have to pay marina prices.

I don't envisage any major stops on route because it will take us long enough to get to Poole and the nights are drawing in so we have to be aware what time sunset is.

Nos4r2 has suggested a blast out to Swanage but I think we might be a bit restricted on time if we are going to eat at Poole. Maybe something for the crews launching nearer to Poole to occupy themselves whilst the rest of us get to Poole.

As usual this is a casual cruise; skippers are responsible for their boats and the people on them – RIBnet nor I can not be held responsible for anything that happens. Obviously we will all keep a good look out for each other, and it should be a great day out.

The best route for you would be via North Head buoy, which is north of Cardinal east of the Shingles Bank. Then take a CTS to East Loo channel buoy. Make sure your charts are up to date as the east loo channel has moved.

Nice of you to put your head of the parapet. Is that you volunteering for a course from Yarmouth ?

I can locate north head Buoy and its the route I would have chosen with my limited knowledge but I can't find the East Loo Channel Buoy !
