We'll be there as long as work does not interfere in the meantime.
Just the two of us for lunch, and will decide nearer the time if we're launching at Poole and exploring, or coming from the Solent if that's OK.

I'll ring the fuel barge (the easiest), Salterns and Cobbs Quay to check fuel prices. Cobbs will be a PITA to get to though-it's a mile into Holes Bay at 6 knots max.

What kind of plan are you after Nick?
It should be pretty straight forward once we link up.
I'll be off the Training Bank Beacon at 12.15ish (close to the waypoint)-get hold of me on channel 77 to let me know progress.
From the meeting place straight into the boat haven (20 mins max), get to pub, eat and drink then leave and fuel up on the way out.

Matt,

You don't have to write anything down.

If you can just meet us at the start of the channel and then pilot us in to where the nosh is.

I just don't want to run aground or get nabbed by the harbour master for speeding.

If its the same route out you can escort us if you want to the exit then we'll head off for home.

Any problems and we'll be listening on channel 77.

I'll phone you when we leave Cowes and at Yarmouth and let you know if we are going to make it.

Matt,

Just a quick thought. If its a nice day why don't you backtrack our route and meet up with us on the way in. It shouldn't be too difficult to see us.

That sounds like a plan

You won't get nabbed for speeding-the limits won't be in force the way we're going in so we could always do a line-up on the way through the harbour. It'll be fairly (or even totally) empty.
There should be plenty of water too-I was basing times on my copy of Jtides which seems to be woefully wrong.

Matt,

I'd like to leave all the Poole itinery to you. I'll be happy just to get to Poole with a crowd of Ribbers.

Heres the final update for the next few days. I'll keep updating names etc off line and then update again when I've got enough stuff to make it worth while updating.
Okay, Here goes for a plan.

Cowes Tides:

LW: 08:32 1.7m HW: 15:27 3.8m LW: 20:56 1.6m Sunset: 17:47

Poole Tides:

LW: 08:00 1.3m HW: 11:46 2.0m LW: 20:24 1.1m Sunset: 17:50

Looks like most of us will be launching at low tide and retrieving as it gets to low tide again.

Charts for reference = Imray – Poole Harbour (Y15)

1030 hrs all those from the Central and Eastern Solent areas meet off Cowes at Gurnard Black./Yellow Buoy - N50 46.191 W1 18.819.

Fuel is available in West Cowes just south of the chain ferry at N50 45.392 W1 17.550. Exact cost not known but I paid £1.20 per litre last month.

Toilet and coffee stop available next to the Red Funnel Jet Boat landing at West Cowes. N50 45.542 W1 17 559. A landing fee should be paid to the Harbour Master.

If any one needs to refuel etc can they plan to do this prior to 1030 hrs.

For information popular distances to Cowes from the following places are:

Langston Harbour entrance - approx 11 Nautical Miles.

Portsmouth Harbour Entrance - approx 8 Nautical Miles.

Chichester Harbour Entrance - approx 15 Nautical Miles.

Southampton - Itchenor Bridge - 9 Nautical Miles.

Depart Cowes at 1030 hrs and head for Yarmouth keeping to the Island side of the West Solent. Approx distance = 9 Nautical Miles. At 20 Knots this should take less than 30 mins.

Arrive Yarmouth 1100 hrs.

Rendevous Point just outside Yarmouth is just west of the harbour entrance at the small craft moorings. N50 42.499 W1 30.269

Here we will break for 30 minutes. Fuel can be gained from within the harbour and also a quick toilet break or snacks can be obtained. There is a short landing jetty next to the refuelling

point. As long as we don't mob hand it we should be okay to avoid any landing fees.

Depart yarmouth at 1130 hrs and head for Poole. Their are no intended stops between Yarmouth and Poole.

Distance from Yarmouth to Poole is 18 Nautical Miles. At 20 knots this will take close to one hour. Therefore our arrival off Poole harbour entrance should be 1230 hrs.

Our course from Yarmouth to Poole will follow the following course.

1) Sconce at N50 42.641 W1 31 926.

2) Off NE Shingles at N50 42.052 W1 32 976.

3) North Head at N50 42.744 W1 35.447 Possible meet up with the Poole reception committee from this point on.

4) Off Henigstbury Head at N50 41.512 W1 44.714.

5) Outer limits of Poole Harbour marked channel at N50 39.261 W1 55.147.

Nos4r2 to provide escort in to Poole.

Matt. Could you outline a plan for the Poole Harbour sortie please. Including fuel etc.

Hopefully we should all be landed and at the bar at about 1300 hrs.

If we aim to depart at 1500 hrs this should get us back to Cowes about 1700 hrs, including stops for anyone requiring fuel at Yarmouth.

Participants so far are :- (Anybody is welcome though )

RIBNET NAME: CREW: LAUNCH PLACE: BOAT NAME: MEETING PLACE:

Biggles 3 Crew Total Warsash Zerstorer Cowes
Pressman +3 4 Crew Total Hythe Marina Pressman Cowes
Slimtim Yarmouth HotShot Yarmouth
BenC Southampton Intrepid Cowes
Neil Harvey 2 Crew Total

Nos4r2 Poole Psychosis Poole
DJL
The Jackeens Merlin
Nauti Buoy Port solent
rickuk3 ? Hyde-Away II
Neil harvey Poole or Solent ! Vixen
AndyB007 2 Crew Total Southampton Darwin Cowes
Ian M

TOTAL PEEPS = 11 People.

As has been previously requested my be a good idea if we all put our RIBNET names on the boats somehow. I printed mine on A4 paper. Folded it in half and taped it in a clear plastic

sleeve which was then stuck on the inside of my windscreen.

I'll keep a checklist of all the names supplied so we hopefully don't leave anyone behind.

Communications will be via Channel 77 on VHF.

As usual this is a casual cruise; skippers are responsible for their boats and the people on them – RIBnet nor I can not be held responsible for anything that happens. Obviously we will

all keep a good look out for each other, and it should be a great day out.

Excuse how the list of names worked out.

I'll try and get it right for the next review.

By the way confirmation of crew numbers, boat names, launch places, RV points etc would be appreciated over the next few days.

Is anyone else coming fromt he solent area who does not have nav lights? I don't have any so obviously have to be back well in time. Don't really want to make the trip back on my own, is this going to be a problem? I spose I have the benefit of only having to get to yarmouth.

Tim,

Hopefully we won't need any lighting. Should be back at Cowes for 1700 hrs which is before Sunset.

Alternatively how about taking the time now to fit some Nav Lights.

Tim,

We nearly all have to go back to the solent, or at least to yarmouth, so you wont be alone if we do get caught out..

Whatever happens, if need be I'll stick with you!

I'm going to book the pub tomorrow. Does anyone else want to add their names to the list? I'll overbook so there'll be plenty of room if anyone extra wants to turn up.

RIBNET NAME: CREW: LAUNCH PLACE: BOAT NAME: MEETING PLACE:

Biggles 3 Crew Total Warsash Zerstorer Cowes
Pressman +3 4 Crew Total Hythe Marina Pressman Cowes
Slimtim Yarmouth HotShot Yarmouth
BenC Southampton Intrepid Cowes
Neil Harvey 2 Crew Total

DJL
The Jackeens Merlin
Nauti Buoy Port solent
rickuk3 ? Hyde-Away II
Neil harvey Poole or Solent ! Vixen
AndyB007 2 Crew Total Southampton Darwin Cowes
Ian M

TOTAL PEEPS = 11 People so far-is this right or are there passengers missing off the list above? Will book for 20ish as an interim so there should be plenty of spare spaces.

Matt,

Looks like 20 should be fine. I'm still waiting for a few crew updates. Obviously if the weathers crap the numbers will be somewhat less but if its good then we should get 20.

I probably got one or 2 others with me...thats if I can make it, its a friends birthday and not sure if he wants to do something during the day! I might bring him along

Benc, thanks for that, always good to have another RIB for backup!

Nick, if I fitted nav lights now, I wouldn't have enough money to pay for the fuel for the trip !

Fair enough mate. I'll keep my eyes open for you and see if I can come up with something.

As a cheap option for an emergency might be worth getting some of these.

http://www.theglowcompany.co.uk/acat...glowstick.html

I know you can't get white but the red and green bits covered. Would probably only be a couple of quid locally in somewhere like millets.

Or I bet some of your Student mates have got them. Seems like the in thing for Raves/Clubs going by what they say on that web site.

Nick.
