Neil
Launching from Haslar in Gosport and heading over to either the Folly or Sloop depending on conditions. Was launching at 10 but have revised it with my crew this evening to about 12. Back no later than 4pm.

Very much suck it and see merchants at this stage, so might go no further that the Light ship but I want a little rough water handling experience so will be very much up for the longer haul.

Neil I have your number I think ending in 895 yes? I'll give you a ring just before launching.

Well just got back, was a bit blowy . Did try to make Wotten or Cowes, but decided to chicken out because one member of my crew was feeling uncomfortable, so turned around and headed to Langston for a cruise around the harbour. We then headed back toward Portsmouth hugging Southsea beach and was much calmer so after watching the Hovercraft launching we tried for Wotten again. Glad we did as just made to Sloop in time for a quick beer before the tide went out.

On the way back up Wotten creek the outboard started to play up and started to mis-fire. Engine off, checked the leg for plastic bags etc around prop. All looked OK! Tried to start engine again and she didn't want to go at all. Checked primer bulb which was softish so gave a few pumps. A couple of attempts to start had her running rough, so gave her a blast on the throttle and things started to look OK again......So don't really know what went wrong there.

On the way back home I hit a wave a little arkwardly and lost my footing, smashing my face into the screen rail Crew were OK but got a thick lip and wobbly front tooth for my trouble!

And whilst recovering I hadn't realised that the end roller wasn't set properly, it was end on and ended up gouging a trough in the hull, not too bad but I had to lift the hull at the top of the slipway with my hydraulic jack and piece of wood to turn the roller so that it was in the correct position.

So was an eventful day

Lets see what tomorrow brings. I might try to make Ventnor. That side of the island should be a bit sheltered. But, on a time limit, so will have to keep Cowes as a back up. More waiting to see!

Expecting to be around Calshot 11:40.
Spitbank Fort if I decide to try for Ventnor about 12:10 if conditions are good enough. Then Ventnor for about 12:45.

We'll see.

well, I made it to Ventnor, and back just in time for return train journeys and getting home deadlines!

Mixed conditions ont he way there, with some nice calm water on the south of the island.
Twas even calmer there ont he way back (maybe I should have carried on round) and got lumpy again coming back into the solent. Was quite slow going crossing over to Portsmouth, but then calmed quite a bit again in the lee of the south coast.

A good day out, but not the best of days to introduce friends to ribbing! Think they were glad I refused to take them out yesterday!
