Well I am now a definite.
I was meant to be on call for work but managed to swap it.
I will prob be staying in the IOW though so will meet somewhere.
Will the rain stop play on this trip or are we all hardcore SIBbers? It's spring tides so could get choppy!

Those are some great spies! And yes slightly, narrowed it down to a small section at the back, will take next weekend out to fix it and paint the tubes at the same time. easy

An idiot's guide to circumnavigate the IoW from Lymington

It's not fair for people to make light of other's dilemmas.
I'm not sure if you're heading for Yarmouth or round the Island.

Either way: go down the river keeping to the right hand side (green buoys/markers to the left; red ones to the right) maintaining the speed limits (4Kts till the southern edge of L'yngton Yact Haven; 6kts till the end of the river). Watch out for big white floaty things coming towards you or up your backside. Follow the former; speed up or move right for the latter.

If you're heading for Yarmouth: At Jack in the Basket (big marker on your right with its name on it) head due south to Yarmouth about two miles away (the Norman tower of its church is clearly visible: if you can't see it turn around and go back 'cos there's too much mist/fog). Keep to the right of any big white floaty things going in your direction and you'll enter the harbour. Also keep to the right of any big floaty things coming towards you. Once in the harbour: exceed 4kts or go around in circles for a bit and the Harbourmaster will come over and ask what you want. Alternatively, speak to him on CH68.

If you're going around the island: turn sort of left at Jack in the Basket to keep the land to the south (the Island) on your starbord side. This applies for the rest of the trip. The buoyage in that direction at this point keeps green buoys to the right and red ones to the left. Don't worry too much about that: its for tankers. A boat with your draught will go much closer inshore, although for safety, I'd tend to keep any N Cardinals to my right. Go from headland to headland and you'll end up at Cowes. Don't turn right up the river there. After Cowes the same applies (save that N Cardinals become E Cardinals then, further on, S ones) although for technical reasons (and safety) if you are following them you now need to keep the red buoys to the right and the green ones to the left. You also probably need to keep a bit further offshore along the East side of the island (2 miles should do it). After that Ventnor is towards the South of the island and the Needles are at the West. Keep heading clockwise round and you'll end up off Yarmouth: backtrack up the river to Lymington. No waypoints needed: simples.

Trevor G has a plan (not a chart) at http://www.rib.net/forum/f18/round-i...a-45415-7.html #63

Best
David

Hi All – sorry been hectic at work and with other things recently .

However my proposal was not to go round the island on this day, just use it as a fun day for everyone to share some thoughts on SIB set up etc .

The outline plan – launch at Lymington – head over to Yarmouth . My own planning for this is unless I can clearly see Yarmouth from the entrance to Lymington - I wont go !…and the same for the trip back . On the basis I don’t have chart plotter on board I have not planned the route as I feel its one leg which is hazard free. Of course everyone is at the end of the day going to make their own choices. Follow the ferry is a commonly used Nav tactic.

I’m assuming on being in Yarmouth at about 12.00 ish ( allowing for just a gentle cruise and a bit of fun on the way ) , have some lunch , and if the sea is calm enough and people want to head out of Yarmouth , hugging the Island out to the Needles , and then back again to Lymington.

I know some of you are confirmed to camp at Hurst View ( as am I – assuming its not a F9 with driving wind or -5’c ) for at least Friday & Sat night .

I am confident some of the bigger RIBNET rib members ( boats not the actual members size) may be about too.

I think anyone who is on the list has my number but if not let me know if you want it just in case there are delays – if your on way we wont want to leave without you !

Just need to pray for nil wind and calm seas ( except for Matt H …eh Matt ? )
