Solent/Alderney/Solent - summer 2008 tba

We are looking for a buddy(ies) RIB for a blat over to Alderney and back.

Itinery* as follows:

1. RV in the Solent early on Saturday morning as the sun comes up;
2. Cruise down the Solent to Yarmouth for a quick cuppa and refuel;
3. Head off on course for Braye Hbr. Speed to be determined by consensus;
4. Arrive Braye for opening time at The Divers;
5. Hire mopeds for mini TT-style lap of Island;
6. Saturday night spent relaxing/drinking/sleeping/soaking in hot bath at, possibly, the Health Spa Hotel:
7. Drink at yacht club.
8. Breakfast on Sunday in hotel;
9. Possible refueling hassle;
10. Head off back to The Solent.

*weather dependent. Glassy, windless, baking hot Channel envisaged. We can be flexible.

Any takers?

Andy

Andy, I've been waiting for one of these trips to appear, so yes. Could be very interested. Don't know about the Moped bit, had a nasty experience many years ago and am definatly a 4 wheel man now , but everything else. I'm getting the engine serviced at the end of the month so would prefer to go afterwards and there's something I want checked out before a big trip and away with the family the first week in August.

So if it fits in with your plans, I'm up for it.

Cool.

Shall we keep an eye open for a weather-window over a weekend? Or could you make it during the week ever?

The hotel looks nice.

Oh, and mopeding is entirely optional.

Okay. Cool.

How much notice would you need for a weekend trip?

kind of depends...

probably not too much, she lives pretty much ready to go apart from fuel, which I usually do on the morning of any trips out before she is dropped in, but for that early start, would just refuel at Yarmouth!

If I know it may be coming, I'd just try to keep everything virtually ready, drive down the Friday night (as long as flight home not 3 hours delayed like it has been), have the boat dropped in on Friday night, and be able to leave early Sat having kipped in the car!!

I've got Monday flights back to work for a while now, so that makes life easier.

Would be happier next time with the aux on the back though... but as I have no way to mount it yet, that is not likely if we go any time soon!

I'm also off from 1st-11th August, with no definite plans yet, which could be a possibility.

It is for coffee but as to staying overnight well they quoted us £180 each for a night. Found a very nice B&B in the town for £70 instead.

Don't forget Brian lives on the Island, worth dropping him a pm.

I have a plan! You could come by slow boat and we'll all stay overnight onboard

Well funnily enough we are crossing at the end of the month to the islands.

Might be worth taking a tent btw, good campsite 10 minute walk from the harbour.

Brian has moved to the IoM.

I was in Alderney on Friday and had a cracking reception by the Yacht Club. The crossing back to mainland in a 5 building 6 was "interesting".

I am thinking of returning next weekend, 2/3 Aug should this coincide with anyone? I will be heading out of Weymouth and then probably back to Brighton when i leave.

Is there still interest in going? Can't make it in the next two weekends, but after?
