Small RIB Hamble to Needles Sunday

Anybody with a small RIB, Say under 5 Metre, fancy a trip to the Needles on Sunday.

Sorry about the size to you big boys I don't want to hurt your feelings but you make me feel inadequate.

I know the weather won't be the best but I shall be making my way along the solent about 1100 hrs with my son.

Maybe catch someone out there.

Hi Biggles,

I hope to be in the Solent Sunday but will probably end up looking at all the Racing Ribs Off Southsea Castle instead.

If you do go you will enjoy it.

Whats that about Racing Ribs off Southsea common.

Is it worth a look and what time is it at and what are they doing.

Might do the Needles another day, Theres always next weekend, if there is something else interesting going on.

What times do these races run from - to on Sunday.

I have downloaded the circuits so I know where they are just like some times now please. Can't quite work that one out.

Mine Brain Hurts been sat in a classroom all day and I feel Kna___red now.

Well at long last I did it.

Get to the Needles I mean.

Thanks for all your info last year.

Oh and if the Island side is supposed to be smoother it must be awful on the Mainland side.

Anyway it took less than 3 hours for the round trip from Warsash, including stops, and 25 litres of fuel for a round trip of 50 miles.

Next trip is round the Island so any info would be useful. In particular what to expect between The Needles and St Catherines Point with regards big waves and my tiddler of a boat.

I guess this will have to be a summer trip when there is a nice bit of high pressure sitting pretty over the South Coast.

If you want a "safety boat" stood by let us know. Or plan for RIBex weekend? There will be lots of RIBs around for sure.

wheres the best place to launch around hamble and at what state of the tides?

been out of there a few times fishing on wight rebel be nice to launch from there as i know the area and its a lot quiter from tourists

I always use the public slipway at the bottom of Hamble high street. Its good hard stony stuff and useable at all states of the tide except low water springs where you might find the ledge at the bottom!
Very shallow incline so best if you have a relatively low trailer. With my roller coaster I only need to put the back wheels of the car in the water about 6".
Used to have an awful 1970's trailer where the boat was held much higher. Would have to let the trailer down on a rope from the back of my little Peugeot 205 - but was still OK.
Very good fun watching the tourists watching you take the boat down the cobbled high street - it looks like a boat won't fit around the bend but it will - just! (Unless your boat is particularly wide)

It's OK to leave your trailer on the hard next to the slip and there is a car park adjacent for the car.

An alternative would be the Warsash slipway. I haven't used this but I guess someone may be along soon who has.

i do know where you mean actaully it is a wide body 6.2mtr but ime sure u will squeeze her down there,,, this is by the bridge to the jetty for the taxi your on about isnt it?

Hi

I have used Warsash a couple of times.

Its a 24 hour slip made of loose shale. Access is good, parking is good but you need to look at the slip at both high and low tide so as you can get an idea of all the obstructions either side. Theres quite a bit of concrete hidden below the water on either side that would be terminal for your RIB. Also its a funny old slip at high tide as the top of it is very shallow for about 40 metres.

I have seen people drive there cars through 40 meters of water at high tide. Not something I fancy doing.

At the moment the top of the slip is covered in sea weed and you would probably need a 4 X 4 to get through it.

Also Wednesday evening at 1700 hrs the Slip gets mobbed with the local sailing club doing some Racing. 1700 hrs to 1900 hrs.

Hope that helps, Its not a bad slip with some good parking, a 4 hour park next to the Slip and a long stay one about 100 meters away. All free (Makes a change for the UK) and you have the Rising Sun Pub right next to it with pleanty of old biddys watching the boats and your car to boot.

With regards the Hamble Slip. I did a recce on that last year and dismissed it because of a lack of parking for the trailer. When I was at the it was high tide and there was very little room for a trailer at the top of the slip. Maybe I need to look at it again.
