Good Fun

Once again Ian pulled a Cruise out of the bag....Well done mate.
Dave Manning in Caprice, Phil in his 4.0 Sea Rider accompanied by Ian along with myself in MeMe set off from Abersoch main beach at 11:00 in what can only be described as rather fresh conditions. The sea was awash with white-horses and as the tide turned the sea state became a little more lively as did the strengthening wind.

Unfortunately, 20 minites out I felt a little uneasy with the conditions and with the prospect of a good hour of it on the nose forced the others to turn back - sorry chaps. (Jono don't even go there)...!!

We spent the next few hours tucked in Porth Ceiriad Bay sipping hot coffee and test driving eachothers RIBs. Jono joined us for a short while in a "speed boat"...eehhh and consequently didn't get offered a coffee or a chocolate bun !!

Following a whistle stop visit to St Tudwalls Islands to see the seals we set off for Pwllheli to assit Dave recovering Caprice as well as acting as his chaperone for the 35 minute run (usually 15). A run which Phil utilised to the full to show us his pearly white teeth, I've never seen a man grin so much when being thrown around by a rather menacing looking sea. Ian on the other hand now has "white finger" syndrome from hanging on !

Having recovered Caprice, Phil, Ian and myself buddied back to Abersoch where, following the realisation that my handbrake was on managed to pull my rig up the slip much to the amusement of the onlooking crowd.

As always I had my camera unfortunately the manual focus was set incorrectly ! Here therefore are the best I could manage from 45 wasted shots.

Dave & Caprice doing a fly-by..........

Phil, Ian and Dave

Making up for being the weakest link I dished out the usual MeMe special of well laced Baileys coffee and chocolate biscuits.

Rough Stuff

The camera always adds 10 lbs, so my wife tells me. On this occasion the camera has taken off all the white-horses and the 6ft swell

Graham, there are one or two of us in north Cardigan Bay most weekends. Three of us are based or have weekend retreats there and a couple are from the north side of the Peninsula. One lad even tows up from Essex (mad fool, but he does no work so has plenty of time on his hands).
Let us know when you are free and we'll arrange a trip out.

Swinton Worsley

Hi Graham, Graeme here....... It's a small world, I'm only in Worsley. Both Ian and myself are in Abersoch most weekends, another pal (well we let him think we like him) Jono lives and works in Abersoch so there's always someone out and about. Let us know when you fancy doing something and we'll (Ian) will organise a weekend out. Abersoch is a great place to launch and the Bay area offers some great 1 day cruising.

p.s Dry suits are for southern jessies (Phil) !!!

Yup, they sure are. Alive, comfortable, enjoying our RIBing.

But seriously, we picked three of our friends out of the sea last weekend. One (who'd been in the water longest) was in mild shock and in risk of becoming a real casualty. Have you seen the difference in survival times, in the sea, between ordinary wet weather gear and a drysuit? It makes very sobering reading.

If you're planning winter RIBing, either get in touch with Matiboy on this forum (if you're a skinflint) or Ravenspring (if you want top quality and value) or Musto (if price is irrelevant).

Dry Suits

Yea Richard I'm with you, Dry Suits are a must, I'm only pulling the leg of a pal (Phil - from Essex) who takes the mick out of me in my Musto gear. I must admit I have yet to get a drysuit and have simply been wearing my sailing gear up until now. I'll no doubt make a purchase this winter.

p.s Thanks to all for the Birthday wishes, very humbling !
