Round Isle of Wight 4 Macmillan 2014

Round Isle of Wight for Macmillan Cancer Support will be on 29th June 2014 weather permitting…

For important notes regarding Rib.net Cruises please read this:

http://www.rib.net/forum/announcement.php?f=18&a=2

VHF Channel 08

Rendezvous – Outside Wootton Creek IOW at 10:30am to 11am

There will be two groups this year:

Team Scooby 4m – 5m (ish)

Setting off from outside Wootton Creek at 11am, this is a chance for the smaller ribs to have a go in company, we are looking for a few large support ribs to volunteer to go round with them Cruising speed is estimated to be around 20 knots.

Team Shaggy 5m+

Setting off from outside Wootton Creek at 11:30am with a cruising speed of around 30 knots ish. We are looking for the biggest ribs to run at the back just incase someone needs a hand.

Just like the last two years we will be going clockwise with a rolling start, so this is how it works…

Ribs leaving the Poole/Christchurch area will head towards the RV, as soon as they are level with the Needles they have started their circumnavigation, likewise with any rib traveling to the RV from the West (Lymington, Yarmouth, Cowes and Southampton Water). We all meet at the RV time above and Team Scooby gets a head start

We set off at our allotted times rounding No Mans Land Fort where we’ll meet up with the Portsmouth ribs and our friends from the east before heading south where the Ribs from Bembridge will join us.

There are no planned stops but we will need to stop occasionally so that we keep together and get some photos.

Our last RV will be at the Needles where the Poole/Christchurch Ribs will have completed their circumnavigation and everyone gets in one big line ready for a photo that should be worthy of any mantelpiece

I’ve launched a new Justgiving page and it will be down to each skipper to do their own fundraising so thinking of new ideas will give you a head start in this, but there is no pressure on you to give or raise any money if you don’t want to…

Rib. net is fundraising for Macmillan Cancer Support

There will be prizes for the best fancy dress in each of the rib groups if you want to take part and have a little fun

I will be launching from Calshot as well, so we can run out to the start together.

But what in????!!!! Come on!!!! Get on with it....I'm getting more gray hair...it's taking even longer than another osprey with an etec to bolt together :-).

I'll probably go from calshot or lym....whatever's best/needed.

Any idea of the the total distances of the two routes? I might need more fuel than I could carry...

Dont worry - other boats can carry spare tanks etc and we will stop to allow top ups etc

Not sure about two routes ? - round the island one way is the same as the other ..... Do you mean to Wooten from ' a place' then round or something ?

I think it's about 55nm all the way round, then you need to add getting to and from the start point (wherever on the circle you start) so I'm going to take 67.5 litres in my SR4 (3 x 22.5 litre tanks). That should give me a suitable buffer of spare fuel.

As a guide for smaller boats - the old 2 smoke on the SR4 did 45 miles on 30litres with 40 Johnson- at an average of about 25knts. Cruising at 20knts should give more range than this for 30l.

The new fangled 4 smoke 50 managed 80 miles on 35litres at a cruise of 20knts.

Both on 4m ribs.....hope this helps - but if in doubt - take more out !

Rough weather will use more and slow the cruising speed.

Hopefully everyone knows thier own boats usage or can find out prior to next year.

I'm up for it again - not sure about Mrs T & the pups. If they don't want to do it this year I'll have spare seat(s)

If I can get down early on Sat & get somewhere to stay & keep boat secure might make a weekend of it.

Team Scooby or Team Shaggy? 5.3m 20ish kts or 30ish(-) difficult to decide. Managed to keep up last year though (despite Tigga taking a 5 mile detour into Sandown pier to find his next boat!)
