If you are unfamiliar with the northeast and east sides of the island have a look at a chart because you need to give Ryde Sands and Bembridge Ledge (after Bembridge Lifeboat Station) a very wide berth as they are shallow areas extending a good way out.

I don't want to complicate things but if it would aid a smooth 'group launch and recovery' on Sunday I'm more than happy to jog in with you on your team Scooby group deal?

Let me know what's best.
Barrowboy,
I can't help with costs if you've already paid your fees - but it might be worth asking for a discount on the Sunday if you're paying on arrival. I can help with launching and recovery if you need it, my boat for the weekend is carried to the water by hand, but I'm bringing my Range Rover if you need a trailer towing up or down the slipway.

No worries Will, I couldn't possibly stand by and watch your Range Rover do all the hard work whilst I look on from the comfort of my Defender!

Look forward to meeting you on 29th.

I wish Tony, It would have been brilliant to catch up with everyone again, and get out on a trip ive always wanted to do (and with company) but all my spare/boating cash is buying prams and costs at the moment.. My boating this year has been horrific so far, only one real trip but I am hoping to get out loads towards the end of the year...

If you are going in or out of Southampton Water watch out for Calshot spit. It extends out much further than you would expect and will be shallow enough on that morning and around tea time to bend props. Also make yourself familiar with the precautionary zone between Cowes and Calshot (within that zone you have a rolling prohibited area in front of and either side of large vessels over 150m in length, you need to keep 1000m away from the front and 100m either side of these vessels). See http://www.southamptonvts.co.uk/admi...-by%20page.pdf for more info.

Ah, like that RNR Lieutenant in the yacht did when he caught his spinnaker halyard around the anchor of the tanker?

You've seen a lot of trees and forest tracks this year though Chris, eh? I'm back on Monday so I'll be down to haunt you on the Straits next weekend. How's the SR4 looking?

yes Tony, plenty of trees, forest stages n some really nice historic rally cars, some crappy modern stuff too but can't have it all me own way

the SR4 is nearly done, hoping to get stuck into it this weekend, not much left to do now, just need a good run at it to box it off

yes, we'll be back to caernarfon next w'end, could do with a good run out, hopefully we can get out into Caernarfon Bay as well, maybe even up to Sth Stack or across to Ty Coch for a🍺, and a visit to Fu's if were lucky

Hi poulner6 , I,m in the same situation not having done this length of trip before. Averaging 30k will be pushing it for me so I will go with the smaller boats. Will help on fuel as well!

Unless it's an exceptional day the faster boats won't average much more than that

20-25mph is a very nice cruising speed and saves on fuel and better sight seeing

Let us know what you are doing re fund raising

Wheels are in motion now on the fundraising front by me and my 4 crew. We have £400 pledged from 2 of our employers and a further £400 (If I wear ladies undies over my fancy dress outfit - how can I refuse!!) from a very good friend who works with ribs and recently had to seek help from McMillan. He can't join us onboard this year but will be watching from afar.

That's £800 pledged to kick off with and now pushing to get it in and more. We are having a group crew photo this morning in our fancy dress, which we are using in our campaign and it will be going in the local paper. Also we found that there is a St. Albans McMillan fundraising group so we are going to speak/meet with them to maximise the exposure locally.

Hope we are not the only ones going in fancy dress - if so you won't miss us!

Has anyone confirmed if there are rib net flags or Macmillan flags available to buy to put on our boats for the day?
