You boys missed out! Flat clam all the way, the worst bit was the run into Southampton! Streaker would have loved it as did Nathan K!

Looks like you had a fantastic time, we were on the rib anchored in Whitecliff Bay as you all passed.

Wish we had gone but being newbies we are still gaining confidence and skills with the RIB!

This type of informal trip is ideal for newbies as you can go to areas that you might not go to by yourself. There are always people willing to "fly in formation" just to keep a watchful eye out for you. That's how I started exploring to harbours of the Solent.

Excellent video Whisper. For some reason it won't play on an iPhone or iPad though. Any chance you could adjust the settings to allow it to play from mobile devices as well please?

Thanks to all for making some newbies feel welcome. It was an excellent day and a great trip well planned Trevor G and Whisper. By the time I got back last night and washed the boat down i was nodding off in my Chinese take away!

Also special thanks again to Trevor G for getting me out of a big hole......literally with his 4X4!

Thanks to everyone for making this such a great cruise and in great company as always.

Seeing the RNLI out training as the helicopter delivered a person into the RNLI rib at speed was a treat too

We met up with Sibbo90 at Lymington after he found a new wheel and cruised back to Southampton with them and we also had a good chat with Ian from C2Ribs too.

But most of all, thanks to Trevor G for helping with the planning and and all the other advice which made this cruise so safe and enjoyable

Hi Biff, hope you're doing well, here's a few more pics for you. As you once said the kids will be swimming in Ventnor!

Vid to follow

Great vid. There's nothing better than seeing a group of ribs powering across an open sea. Looks like the conditions couldn't have been much better.

Looks like there are a few lessons for me from this trip.
1. Make sure the Gopro battery is fully charged
2. Get hold of large capacity Gopro battery (taking account of 1.)
3. Get some of the Gopro anti fogging thingies.
Apart from that all was well on the video front
Next time

Yes i was very pleased to get in the water and have a blast, gutted i didn't get to go all the way round but it was nice to RV in Yarmouth, mind you i learnt a couple of key points;

1. Always have a serviceable spare wheel/ tyre, because in this modern age very few places bar the specialists stock trailer tyres,( puncture/ blowout on M3 near Bagshot, to Bagshot Kwik fit> Staines trailer place... closed on Saturdays> to various tyre places and Chandlers, Chertsey, Shepperton, Walton.... then to Esher... (struggled through the VW meeting at Sandown park).. to see a mobile trailer mechanic who thought he had what i needed... he didn't but he gave me a wheel with the right stud PCD but it was a 13 inch rim and mine were 10 inch > phoned my mate who was guarding the boat on the motorway and told him to take the mudguard off to get the oversize rim on > then to a brilliant trailer spares place called TrailerTek in Micheldever who supplied and a new tyre and a spare which i should have had in the first place .... finally launched from Crosshouse hard at 1400hrs after struggling past the Dell home match day!.... phew..

2. My semi leisure style rib needs a healthy amount of respect on the chop as my severely bruised right dead leg which smashed off the throttle handle will show.... i think i might have been "rear gunner" if i had done the whole trip

Anyway i really enjoyed the blast up Southampton water and across to Yarmouth, i will definately meet up and try again next time, thanks for coming back to check on me when i was lagging behind

Stu.

Ouch

Yep, always carry a spare wheel and a jack.

And try not to Jock yourself on the throttle

Seriously, I'm glad you persevered and we were able to meet up in the end.

Glad you turned your day around and got some ribbing in

No Problem - It's nice to be able to help.

Here's my video diary of the Day - as usual, it isn't as polished as Whisper's - and no music - hang on - that sounds just like my boating as well as my filming / editing ....
Still - what a great day.

At the end of the video (from about 4 mins 10 Secs) we get the Solent Coastguard VHF audio from a Mayday off the Needles where a rib was taking on water, and another Rib ("Black Night" I think) was going to help. Does anyone know how this ended?

Yes i had it set up and recorded a couple legs of the trip. Only recently bought the gopro not looked into editing software yet but will have a go and post soon. Don't expect any fancy editing though. Great footage by the way really captured the trip well.
