Round Britain, Must Go Destinations,

I am shortly to be heading off on a Round Britain Trip, I am looking for any ideas of coves / caves/ ports / islands / pubs / beaches and anywhere else you consider worth making a detour to or pausing at. I imagine this one month cruise will be a once in a lifetime opportunity, and of course i wont be able to see everthing but a bit of local knowledge is great.

Our time table is based as follows:

24th Sept Stornaway - Kinlochbervie
25th Sept Kinlochbervie - Stromness
26th Sept Stromness
27th Sept Stromness - Peterhead
28th Sept Peterhead - Arboath
29th Sept Arbroath - Berwick on Tweed
30th Sept Berwick - Whitby
1st Oct Whitby - Blakeney
2nd Oct Blakeney - Brightlingsea
3rd Oct Brightlingsea- London
4th Oct London - Whitstable
5th Oct Whitstable - Rye
6th Oct Rye - Southampton

Things will change, as there is not much allowance for bad weather, maintenance etc but its a start.
If anyone is arround when we get to your area do come out and say hello.

You might want to add a day in or around the Farne Islands - lovely area that.

Whitstable to Rye in a day sounds "challenging"

Tricky - that would make it a Round Britain and a Quick Stop in Northern Ireland Trip.

Hi good luck. If you are coming up the Sound of Jura en route to Oban you must time it to take in the 'Corry' and the Grey Dogs! If I am up that w/end I will keep a look out for you.

Some of the distances between stops are quite short and you might like to look at doing two a day weather permitting to allow for bad weather. If it was me, I would suggest from Peel to Donagadhee then Portpatrick then Redbay then Jura. This way you do have a couple of stops in Northern Ireland. There is not much at Cambeltown. Have a great trip and remember, its always better after!!! Alan P

Along jurrassic Coast, dancing ledge, kimmeridge

Hi there I help look after the small uninhabited island of Eilen Mor McCormac its location is in the sound of Jura.We will be there end of Sept. Your welcome to pop in see the place its beutiful. If passing let us know. Weve built a small stone bothy on it and it has a fantastic sheltered natural harbour where we've constructed a stone jetty.

To answer everyone
Eilen Mor McCormac sounds fantastic, and as we will be round Corry & the Grey Dog, it all looks very convenient, and a real highlight of the trip.
Cambeltown is en-route to meet up with friends, yes I would love to get to N Ireland, if there is time I am sure we will, a lot of the route will be influenced by the weather.

We have approx 250 Nm range, but there are still some good gaps, we have contacted a few harbour masters, who have all so far been very helpful over getting jerry cans to the boats.

Going to Tayvallich I always thought it was Eilean Mor largest of the MacCormaig Islands. Hope to c u around was ur rib in Tim's for a while?

Indeed - we took the kids this summer. It is a slightly unusual place in that it is in middle of nowhere, has no inhabitants, but there is beautifully cut grass! We were amazed by the huge number of Burnett Moths we saw there (not that I knew what they were at the time).

Where you staying on your travels? I run the campsite at craignure between oban and tobermory. There is a small pier and slip onsite which is free and a petrol station 500yards from the site. www.Shielingholidays.co.uk
P.s there's a great local pub and good food.
