Poole - Ventnor for lunch: Sunday 18 May

Mrs A and I are planning to leave Poole (Parkstone Bay Marina, just by Baiter) around 11.00am to head over to Ventnor with a view to having lunch sitting outside The Spyglass in what should be warm sunshine. Anyone who wants to accompany us/meet us there shortly after midday is more than welcome.

David

Hi Mark

Sounds good. Are you launching at Baiter? If so, we'll see you just off; otherwise let us know where to meet. VHF Ch08

Hi David,
We will be Central Solent, either launching from the Itchen, or (if we can manage to find anywhere with a B&B space tomorrow night) overnighting and leaving from Cowes. I assume you will be going around St. Catherines ? If not, yes we could RV, else we would see you there...

Mark

Assume you're going clockwise round the Island then.....That being so, we're going the other way and we'll see you at Ventnor around 12.15. Will download your MMSI but will PM my mobile to you tonight. See ya Sunday!

If you're heading past Middle Poole Patch keep an eye out for us-hopefully will be taking the Ballistic out for it's first run of the year.

The tides are such that we'll probably cut across and head out down the main channel; failing that, we will go around the North Channel. Will keep an eye out but will be on Ch08 if you see us and not vice versa!

All the best for the run!

I couldn't make this trip as I had other things going on but I've never stopped at Ventnor - is it possible to moor in the small harbour or do you take a mooring on the outside ?

Hi
I was wondering the same.
I was looking at Ventnor on Google Street View. Pretty little town. Looks like a nice little beach for the kiddies, and some pubs on the front for the grown-ups!
The harbour website says visitors are welcome but it dries completely.
Would you anchor off the beach?

Simon.

Best bet is mooring at the new (to 2014) visitor pontoon in the harbour. There is a sand bar at the harbour entrance so you can only get in and out a few hours each side of high tide, but worth the effort if the tides are right.
