We'll be launching from Sandbanks Yacht Company, perhaps we could meet at the entrance to the RMYC /Sandbanks Yacht Co channel - do you all know it ?

Looking forward to this, so is Mrs F, shame there are not more boats going, it looks like a very good weather window for anyone who wants to give this a try

Cheers.

OK Andy - see you on the slipway. I shall be there early as Im comming down Friday night. My crew should be with me before 8.00, so I shall be in the water by the time you get there.

I need to give them a bit of a briefing as they have less experience than me. (none in otherwords).

Forecast looks great for Saturday, but seems like it may pick up to a f4 for Sunday

Cherbourg Marina were at the boat show today. Speed limit inside the Grand Rade is 11kts, then 5kts or slower inside the Petit Rade.
The marina is VHF ch 9.

And possibly one other with Trev - tbc Saturday.

I have a passage plan if people want it, which may change slightly depending the Poole contingent meeting Trev or not.
Andy
I'm 95% sure it'll just be me in Blue Ray - and I'll come up the Solent (past Yarmouth) to the Needles rather than going round the East side of the IOW.

Andy - If you can send me your passage plan, we should be in radio range by the time I'm at the Needles so can hopefully meet up somewhere between Poole and Cherbourg!

Hi, what are your thoughts on the forecast ?

Saturday is looking great.

But Im now seeing a windy, bumpy Sunday and have a crew of 3 who really dont have any idea of what that may mean.

Its touch and go, you could luck out on the Sunday and it won't be as bad as forecast.

I read as 3-4, occasionally gusting 5 which while is fine for the boats, it could be unpleasant for the inexperienced mid channel with no where to hide.

I will go with the majority. If it's a no, does anyone fancy a full day out Saturday, Weymouth perhaps, to avoid loosing a weekend on the water?

If it was me on my own, Id go. But one of my crew has never been out before, the others are fair weather sailers (think Bermuda on holiday).

I think a f4 would be a tad too much for them.

Im quite happy to go to Weymouth via Lulworth etc for lunch and back. Taking all day is fine with me.

Of course, it could change on Saturday morning and be a better forecast.

Thoughts ?

With the current forecast - great for Saturday, and sunny and F4 (15mph steady, gusting 20) NNE wind direction for Sunday in Cherbourg (with less near the UK coast - 12 to 15 mph in the afternoon), I'd expect the run back to be "choppy" but not rough.
It's neap tides so there shouldn't be much tidal swell.
I'm still up for the crossing if anyone else is.

I'm certainly still up for going. I don't think it looks rough enough to abort this. I think you'll find it will be excellent. Although I'm in a largeish boat, size, (in this case!) won't really matter as we'll cruise at the comfortable speed of the slowest boat - no need to feel like its going to be hard going, we'll just slow down if its even necessary.

Ive had a chat with my crew and they are undecided.

So I will see on the day - but dont let that change your plans. You guys do what your happy to do. I will either tag along, or bail out.

Cheers.

Being the smallest and slowest boat, I am keen to go as-long as everyone keeps together and goes at my pace :-) just checking with my crew member for final confirmation.

Can I have a copy of the passage plan? Just for information about your trip?
