Hi Andy, what forecast are you looking at Andy ?

Did the hotel have lots of room, or do I need to book now ?

Andyjcox - blue ocean - poole
Trimix - Hysucat - poole
Cgf10 - blue ray/Superfly - poole

Trevor g - ? - Southampton

Ribs from bembridge ?

Mud bug? - ? - Christchurch
Trevor G - is Blue Ray 8.6m Shearwater
Cgf10 is in Superfly (I think) - also a 8.6 Shearwater.

Hi,

I use a combination of the met office and xc weather for both Poole and Cherbourg. Looks like light winds at the moment.

They did have a few rooms left but maybe best to check online for availability as they were going.

Andy

Poole to Cherbourg in September.

Forecast looks good to me. Yes Superfly is an 8.6 Shearwater rib and we are organized to join you Saturday

OK, forecast wise I read this:
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/public/w...look/#?tab=map

And checked this map:
Surface pressure charts - Met Office

So if you think that low is not too low, it seems good.

I used this to get an idea of wave height:
Channel Lightship - Weather Stations - Magicseaweed.com

(being a buoy in the middle of the channel)

I will have a look online for rooms then as it does seem like a better crossing that the last time Ribnetters tried it

Glad you got a room Trimix.

Weather looks ok, with winds picking up a little Sunday afternoon but hopefully we will be home by then. Chance of showers but hey, will be getting wet from the spray anyway :-)

Trev, if you end up on your own, do you want to rendezvous to cross, or meet the Poole contingent in Cherbourg?

One final thought, where are you hanging your flags, have seen various arguments for the red ensign on left or right hand side of a frame and courtesy on the other as I have no flag pole.

I only have one pole - in the middle, and only a red Ensign. Not yet got any courtesy flags.

I did order a Corsican one at the boat show - but thats on special order.

Whats the name of the marina in Cherbourg we will use ? I just want to stick a waypoint in it for my plotter and have a look at it online.

Ah, cool. I thought it was that one. But you never know - and I didnt want to stick a waypoint in and find its the wrong marina

What do you do with passports etc ? Do you just turn up and see if anyone wants to see them, or do you call them up on the radio or what ?

Or just not bother and keep them in your pocket incase they ask ?

If I were you I'd keep a laminated copy of your insurance, proof of VAT payment for the boat, international (and RYA?) qualifications and VHF license as well as your passport. If they're laminated it'll help keep them dry, or stick them in a waterproof wallet of some kind.

I believe you may or may not get a visit from customs on mooring up - depends how busy they are or whether they're interested in you for whatever reason.

As above, but last year no one asked to see anything apart from the hotel if I remember right!

Yes (or No) - we've never called them up.
Don't forget to check the speed limit inside the outer harbour wall, and agree which entrance you're heading for - the East and West entrances are a long way apart! (I can't remember the speed limits so if anyone can post it here that would be good!)

From the RYA website... "For all members of the RYA, Port Chantereyne will offer a discount on berthing fees of up to 20% on presentation of a valid membership card"

4 confirmed, 1 TBC

Andyjcox in Blue Ocean from Poole
Yourself in Superfly from Poole (where do you want to meet on sat, myself and Trimix are launching from Cobbs)
Trimix in Hysucat from Poole
TrevG in Blue ray from Solent

And possibly one other with Trev - tbc Saturday.

I have a passage plan if people want it, which may change slightly depending the Poole contingent meeting Trev or not.

Andy

Make sure your flares are in date. The French seem to get grumpy if they see out if date flares.
