France

I would be interested in joning trip over to France, coming out of Christchurch, and possibly someone else who would come along. Its a trip I have wanted to do, but like others prefer first time in convoy with others.

dates for me are flexible, but prefer calm waters...............

will keep eye on the forum,

This is shaping up to a nice size cruise. Lets hope the weather is calm and allows us to go.

For those who expressed an interest in comming along as crew - I would be glad to take one or two of you.

I could do with some experienced crew as my other potential crew mates are as clueless as me

Ive been trying to get an idea of fuel consumption recently. On the weekend just gone, in flat conditions, I was using about 1.6 ltrs per nm.

Should take just over half a tank full then. So that gives me plenty in reserve for safety.

Hi all,

I am still hoping to go to Cherbourg for the weekend 20th Sept - 21st Sept, and thought that some sort of plan should be forming so here goes.....

I have a 6m Ribeye, and plan to be me plus 1-3 crew (confirming soon)

I am hoping to book up the B&B by the end of the of the day Sunday to ensure they have spaces. Currently they do, and I am waiting for confirmation we can cancel short notice is the weather is bad.

I plan to stay here Hôtel Cherbourg - Hôtel Chantereyne sur le port de plaisance Ã* Cherbourg, hôtel avec vue sur Marina which overlooks the Chantereyne Marina.

Standard rooms are £63 per night, Twin rooms are £68 per night.

I was thinking along the lines of:

Review the weather forecast Thursday, if less than a force 4-5 for the whole weekend, its a go. if more than a 5 at any point, then cancel.

Launch at 8:30-9:00 am Saturday at Cobbs, launch and be leaving Cobbs quay by 9:30am

Trimx, CGf10 - would you launch from Poole too and do those times work?

Mudbug, if still interested, would you come over to Poole, or we could meet mid Poole bay about 10:15am

I will need to refuel mid channel but I plan on taking 60ltrs of fuel in 3x20ltr cans in case. My inboard fuel tank is 70ltrs.

60nm/4hr trip at 25knts to Cherbourg, arrive about 15:00 local time.

Go in convoy, Comms on Ch 08

B&B is walking distance from Marina

Have a well earned few beers at the Eldorado pub: Bar l'Eldorado à Cherbourg | Véritable brasserie - Torréfacteur - Pub - Billards

Refuel, leave Cherbourg on Sunday around 11:00am local time, back in Poole for 14:00-15:00 local time.

More than happy to change this to suit, its only a starter for one

Cheers, Andy

Good plan.

That all works for me. I will take some spare fuel as well (couple of 10 ltr cans) - but have 2x100 ltr inboard tanks - so should do the trip on 120 ltrs.

Im happy launching from Cobbs and will get down there the night before.

I have three spaces (so they all get a comfy seat), a few mates have expressed an interest so far, but if they cant make it Id happily take anyone who fancies a go

Just re-organising home life and in negotiations with the Leader of the Opposition but I expect I'll be ok for this. We have a small cabin so will sleep aboard.

Hi Andy
I'm hoping to be up for this but starting in Southampton.
There may well be a few other boats starting from Bembridge - so our best plan would be to leave at roughly the same time, but stay as two groups and meet up either mid channel or in Cherbourg - we should be able to have radio contact once South of the IOW so can possibly help each other in case of any problems.

Hi all,

Weather is looking ok for the weekend so far (hopefully that has not just jinxed it), I have just booked up for myself plus 1 crew at the hotel chantereyne.

If you could confirm your boat name, where you are going from, and I can consolidate a list. Trevor, could you add details for those from bembridge that you mentioned. So far I have:

Andyjcox - blue ocean - poole
Trimix - ? - poole
Cgf10 - blue ray - poole
Trevor g - ? - Southampton
Ribs from bembridge ?
Mud bug? - ? - Christchurch

There will be two groups, one from poole and one from the Solent.

I suggest we keep in radio contact between the two on ch. 08 and arrange a time/place to meet for drinks/ food once in Cherbourg but happy to go with the flow if preferred.

Cheers, Andy

Hi Andy
My boat (Trevor G) - is Blue Ray 8.6m Shearwater
Cgf10 is in Superfly (I think) - also a 8.6 Shearwater.

It looks like there is just one other boat thinking of coming from our end now - but even this is still unclear (they are maybe thinking of doing the last boat show weekend instead).
I'll update this as soon as they decide!
Trev
