It's officially anti clockwise. They will undoubtedly be able to get from Caernarfon to Beaumaris whatever the weather as it is sheltered. As we head from Beaumaris to Puffin we will know whether the North East side of the island is too exposed/too rough. At that point, we can either split in two (it may be that sub 6m ish decide not to brave it) or if v severe like the IOM cruise 2 years ago, all head back up the strait for shelter. We can go right back down to Caernarfon, over the bar and round the SW side of the Island and head up past Newborough, Treaddur the lighthouse etc to Holyhead and the skerries. At that point, you would hit the NE winds again.

Touring the strait in itself and then round the other side is one heck of a days cruising. In all honesty, it is the best part of the island, the rest can be fairly boring except for a few bays.

If you are launching at beaumaris, how far down the tide can you launch? I know at ABC you can only launch 2hrs either side of high water. HW is 15.20 at Menai. Launching at Porth Daniel, Menai, you can launch all but the last 30 mins near a big low tide.

They are hopefully leaving Ty Calch at 11. Clear the bridges by 11.30, giving them more than the first third of the tide to flood the bridges. They will be at Beaumaris I predict by 11.45. So if you can be in the water from 11.30, we will pick you up. I will be on the water from 11ish by the Gazelle anyway, just a couple of mile before you. We will use channel 6 and if anyone wants mine or Tony Ts mobile, just PM.

Beaumaris has loads of parking @ £2.50 per rig and a really good slipway. It costs about £13 per day for self launching (if the council warden is there) which is not that often early in the season. If he is there, be prepared to show your insurance cover at the slipway if you’re visiting for the day.

Launching is also available with limited parking (£6 last year) at Menai Bridge (another council owned launch site). The slip is 200m from the old bridge crossing.

Of course there’s no additional launching charge anywhere on the isle for season ticket holders, like wot I is

Guess we'd have to wait till the next one which looks like the autumn if you organise them twice a year.

I think that a 5mtr + rib is fine, it will be the 4mtr + that will struggle.

dont be worrying about that, if the weather is bad theres plenty to do and see round the straits and the swellies, and theres always some where to get out of the worst of it, never a dull day

It's not been a problem with my deep vee menai 4.85 before as was proved last year on the Nefin run. Its the smaller shallow vee ribs that would struggle first bouncing around everywhere...now lets see if I can think of any????

We will be launching from Ty Calch in July to Ireland if you fancy it not a vast armada like this but should be a great weekend
