Can't say fairer than that!
sounds like a idea son,

guess time will depend on Cookee and the crew, I'm sure he'll give us an idea of when to expect them, but probably have to wait to see what weather is like nearer the time probably best meeting up nearer to caernarfon, at least we can get a good chance to see them at speed then

If I have some contact details of someone reliable I will call before we leave as we will have the weather forecast so it will give us an approximate ETA - we can update at a certain point if that helps as well. Is there a state of tide that makes the trip too difficult or is it deep enough at all times?

It's possible with care and knowledge at all states,if your boat is fast enough ;-) But the easiest time is high water slack, haven't got the tide tables to hand but think its about 1pm on Sat 23

I find the attached very useful.

Write in the high tide at your local port, so assuming you are coming in at the Fort Belan end (the other end to Bangor), put in that high tide at the top of the right hand column, and simply keep adding an hour to your time. In the left hand column deduct an hour, and this will give you the approximate flow rate, slack water and direction as you charge down the Straits.

Also according to the Caernarfon Harbour Master, details can be found at (Caernarfon Harbour Trust) he suggests "The bar channel should not be used at any time other than 3 hours either side of High Water (Depending on sea state)."

The bar bouys were moved and the chart updated on the 1 June 2012 and can now be found as per the attachment.

PS. Should be around on the 23rd too!

I think you must be referring to the numbers by the arrows, 21,43 or 26,51?

If so, the first number is neap rate, second is spring rate. So 05,10 would be half a knot on neaps and one knot on springs. 15,29 is 1.5 knots neaps and 2.9 knots springs and 26,51 is 2.6 knots on neaps and 5.1 on springs etc.

Hope that helps.

I was sure that couldn't be correct! I should know better really but I rarely look at tide charts with our average speed what it is! 5 knots is still a bloody quick tide though!
