launching into the Clyde

Looking for a good place to launch on the Clyde. I am obviously aware of launching facilities further up the Clyde near Greenock/Goorock, but looking for a slip further up the Clyde. Wanting to explore up through Glasgow and did not want to have to go all the way to Greenock if I can help it. Can anybody help?

Michael

MEJ - if I understand correctly then you are looking for a slipway close(r) to glasgow itself?

From detailed discussions last year the conclusion was the best/only option was the renfrew ferry slipway. Thumperbob did a great job of arranging for me and him to use it for a planned trip and then we both had various disasters that got in the way. If you PM him he may be able to help (he's not been around for a while) or I can probably dig deep and see if I can find the contacts etc. As I recall they required proof of insurance as well as a "risk assesment/method of work" to be sent to them in advance.

Thanks for that.

I was down at the Renfrew slip today and all was locked up. Seems a lot of grief if you have to plan that far in advance. If there is nothing easier accessable, I suppose that I will have to launch up at Greenock.

I think the way bob had arranged it once you had permission it was on an on-going basis. Access is only possible/permitted during normal opperating hours for the ferry. Port Glasgow is the next nearest. Speedy (who runs the poweboat school at the tall ship) will probably know if there is any recent developments.
