re seahouses launching

i was ther last weekend diving we went on a hard boat due to the cost of launching a boat at seahouses.
beadnel is a bit cheeper though still with a difficult tractor driver only likes local boats

its £30 per day i asked the unhelpfull harbour master why so expensive he said its the council that set the prices
i said its to protect the hard boats he then shut up and agreed

yes £30 per day so if you launch friday and take the boat out sunday ( 3 days) thats £90
think this is the most expensive fee for launch/keping boat in harbour in the uk
we need to put presure on the council to get this reduced

thanks

harbourmaster there is fairly transparent in his dislike of ribs in general and anything that may affect the normal tourist hard boat charters is discouraged.
Craster Harbour is, I believe, a privately owned harbour and there are currently no launch rights there.
If you dont fancy Beadnell then try Berwick on Tweed or Amble.

The launch costs, the cost of parking for car, the cost and distance for parking of trailer (unless you like leaving it on a tidal beach) but mostly the attitude of the harbourmaster and some other locals made me stop using the place several years ago
Nice slipway, spoilt by a drying harbour where they only provide access from 0830 to 1800 regardless of the tides !!
Shame really as the place has loads of potential

Now ,,,, Dunbar,>> thats a very different proposition Great harbour master, great people and good diving

AFAIK unless something has changed, Seahouses is a private harbour operated by the Harbour Commissioners, i.e fishermen, say no more

We have used Seahouses & Beadnell for around 30 years & it just went from bad to worse, the tractor driver at Beadnell used to be the epitome of miserable. The old biddy that ran the carpark gave "sour faced cow" a bad name. So we moved to Seahouses, the old harbourmaster, George was a gentleman, courteous & helpful, he retired & Ithink it was Huw who took over, he lived in the cottage on the corner at the top of the slip. Then the big useless fat knacker took over & the rest is history. Seahouses has never been diver friendly, we have just been cash cows. Even the hard boat operators treat us as necessary evil (that's when they aren't running us over & chopping our legs off) It's about 6 years since I launched at Seahouses. I'm going to look at Amble next year.
