Weather and ERR

Normally ERR would be this weekend
Our skipper John and his fiance Kate are grateful to all you guys for delaying one week and more particularly for organising blue skies and calm seas for their great day here at Easdale. It is one of these go anywhere days at Easdale.
I have to go the The Garvellachs this am and of course party tonight.

For the actual Jura Jaunt next weekend. All good here. Moorings have been checked outside the harbour for the larger boats, the pontoon will be cleared by the time you arrive GeoffW arrives today I think.

I will update the weather from a personal analysis of the usual weather sites we use from about Wednesday. Fingers crossed and get the BBQ's out

Tony

Its the same this side of the pond!! But like many including you I have been monitoring all week and I do think the biggest worry will be rain Even looking at machrahanish on Fri morning looks not to bad for you and the Sun seems fine. I do think better weather is trying to come in after this present depression.
Everything is crossed and at the moment my navigator Honestman has been on to say its a go if the wind stays as it is so we are making our way to tayvallich tomrrow for Fri pm run up to easdale

An update/Prediction

ERR 2014

We are hoping for around 35 boats on the day. If you are up on Friday then Team Seafari will be around and about from early afternoon to assist. Please check in at the Ticket Office. Larger boats launching at Cuan Alasdair and Kirsteen on the ferry will be there to assist. Some boat we appreciate will just arrive Saturday morning.

General boating info
If you would like the Seafari Ticket Office to check you in/out please do so on Ch 77.
During the event the contact tel no is Seafari Ticket Office 01852 300003. Seafari boats and office listen in on Ch 77.
We advise that boats try and group up with friends/similar size boats and the minimum group size should be 3 RIBs
You are free to do your own thing, you are responsible for your own safety and actions. The Seafari RIB will assuming the weather is OK head Easdale to West Loch Tarbert on Jura via the Corryvreckan. We will land and go for a walk then head to Inner Loch Tarbert for the Navigational Challenge before making a decision as to whether to circumnavigate or return directly to easdale depending on weather and time.
Of those wishing to cruise in company the usual format is first boat away 0930 with someone bringing up the rear departing 0940.

Weather prospects
There is definitely no clear pattern to the weather for this weekend. If you have been weather watching as we do throughout the past week you will see a slight squish of wind heading our way. Initially it was to be Thursday then it dropped to Friday and now we are being told Saturday early. As the week has gone on so the constant wind speed has reduced for this piece of wind but the gust strength has remained. This wind is from the SE. once it is through the wind will back around 90 degrees to SW and calm down. Overhead conditions are sunshine and showers which to be fair is what we have had all week. It will be colder by a couple of degrees but nothing Baltic.
Seafari have certainly sailed throughout the week and whilst there is a bit of groundswell it is not a serious issue.
My prediction with 3 days to go is we will achieve the end objective around Jura this year. If one is late through the Sound of Islay then this area may be a bit lumpy at the western edge due to the SW wind but it is nothing that cannot be sorted with sensible use of the throttles.
Cold and wind chill may be a concern but everyone should bring both warm and waterproof clothing and include multiple hats as they may get wet. A Thermos and easy to eat food as well as the BBQ. You all know the form anyway.

FOOD – Saturday evening
Keren at The Puffer. Please book your meal by e mail or telephone soonest.

Safe journey to Easdale

It has been heartening to see 5 RIBs here at Easdale, all boats who normally come to ERR but due to the switch in dates came anyway. They all say they are coming back again.

Seafari skipper John and Kate’s wedding was a great local event last Saturday

Update thursday

Wind forecast looks even better for Saturday and Sunday. The overhead conditions may be variable but it is surprising the reduced amount of rain we actually get here on the coast when compared to a couple of miles inland. I still think there will be the odd shower but if yesterday is an example (and the forecast is similar) we just had one shower during the afternoon's tour

Good luck to all going to ERR. Sorry i can't make it this year, as i arranged fishing on the Corrib next week . I booked this last year thinking Err would be may day week.

The " that which can not be named" looks good for the crossing for the boys heading from Red Bay. There should be some "interesting craft".

Forecast is improving

Wind speed forecasts (both constant and gusts) for the weekend is decreasing. We are not expecting issues. Precipitation - depends on which forecast you look at but nothing horrendous on any. It is just whether the rain will be through during the night.

All good to go at Easdale.
If you arrive today please check in at the Seafari ticket office.
Those who ordered ERR polo shirts via Jambo - they can be collected from the ticket office.
