Charity Teasure Hunt

OK treasure hunters, get ready for THE charity event of the autumn.

Following the great success of the RIBnet Conference Treasure Hunt in June organised superbly by Daniel and Kevin, we would like to invite you and your family to a fun day of solving clues, hunting for REAL treasure, oh, and RIBBING, of course!

The emphasis is very much on FAMILY FUN so we hope, nay EXPECT, you to bring along your children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. If you don't have any then beg or borrow some (but please don't kidnap any! ). Fun treasure will be awarded to every child (if they solve the fiendishly difficult clue! ) and a prize/trophy will be awarded to the winning team. We're not sure what it is yet, but it'll be great!!!

For those of you for whom it's the WINNING that matters, extra points will be awarded per crew member for wearing pirate-themed fancy dress. (But as we are hoping you will join us for drinks in the pub after, it may be advisable to bring a change of clothes! )

The Treasure Hunt will take place in the Solent (apologies in advance to those who live too far away to take part) and those who wish to will be able to incorporate a trip around the Isle of Wight.

This must-attend event will take place on Saturday 4th September with Sunday 19th in reserve in case the weather is unsuitable. The Treasure Hunt will last for one whole day. Start and end points, the lunch stop venue and timings will be confirmed later.

It is a charity event so we will be asking every skipper to make a modest minimum donation as an entry fee. The receiving charity, nominated by John Kennett, is GAFIRS , the Gosport and Fareham Independent Lifeboat and Rescue Service.

So PLEASE sign up on this thread and pencil the dates into your diary and let's make this a huge, fun event for everyone.

See you there!

The Timboli Clan, Richard B & Louise

That's great Bogi. I'm sure someone will need some crew!

And there's no excuses now for the rest of you, if Bogi can come all the way from Iceland!!

Sounds like a good day out

Thanks for picking my birthday, but unfortunately I won't be able to make the 4th. The 19th should be OK though, so I'll be keeping my fingers crossed for plan B!

Good news, Janet & Bill.

Sorry about the date, John - it would be good to see you if we resort to Plan B!!

Robin - does your reply relate to Janet's or John's? In other words, are you able to make the 4th or are you hoping for Plan B too?

Well said, Louise. Always amuses me quite how many people pledge their presence at such events and pull out at the last minute! I've just returned from a fascinating visit round the Triumph motorcycle factory in Hinckley today, which had been scheduled some 4 months ago and which 21 people had booked to attend - a mere 7 showed up this morning, which is a bloody insult to the people who spend so much time organising such gatherings.

Sorry, just had to get that one off my chest

.......kettle - kettle pot, something like that.

Phil you don't half talk through your arse sometimes. I recall DaveManning, Me and Ian going to great length to organise a Cruise to which you replyed.

Thanks for your good wishes, mate - actually it'll be nearer 7 hours if I come up Friday evening, though it took 9 hours last time! But, as of course you and I are aware, Graeme,it's all about the taking part. You know it would be so much easier to say bo****ks to it and stay in bed when one thinks how much easier the 350 mile journey would be without stopping constantly to walk the labrador and without the nagging worry of ratchet straps working loose or trailer tyres puncturing. Oh and let's not forget the inevitable traffic chaos on the M11 on a Friday afternoon one is forced to contend with, compounded by the congestion on the Leicester section of the M1 and, to crown it all, the misery of the M6 north of Stoke.

And then, of course, one has the expense of an evening meal at the Little Chef in Halkyn to factor in, not to mention the truly outrageous fuel consumption of one's Range Rover to finance. Such tribulations are but nothing, however, when weighed against the pleasure derived from spending quality time in the company of the North West Ribsters. Ribsters who will make the effort to get there because they know a Southerner has - Ribsters who appreciate the enormous efforts taken by others to be there. But we willingly put up with the hassle just to be able to say, 'I was there'.

I understand you won't be joining us, Ian?
AND THEN DIDN'T BOTHER YOUR ARSE TO TURN UP.

"Sorry, just had to get that off my chest"

So, Phil & Graeme, are you coming to the treasure hunt then?

Nick, I'll post some more info in a day or two - need to chat with the Timbolis first as it's their gig really!

Errr, I couldn't possibly commit at such an early stage However, like MeMe, I would be willing to pledge a prize from my company in the form of a highly detailed working model of a Liebherr LTM 1060/2 mobile crane. With a load capacity of 60 tonnes, this 4-axle crane is the world's biggest selling machine in its class and of particular interest to the anoraks amongst us is the ovaloid section boom which endows it with immense tensile strength. Well, it's got to be better than a bloody bottle of MeMe's Russian perfume

Hi Louise,

My spotty oiks would have enjoyed this but the skipper's getting banjaxed on Captain's Day at his golf club.

Plan B would therefore be good for us too.
