Channel Islands (again) - Thursday 9th Aug for the end of Alderney Week

Following the great cruise we had a few weeks ago, we're hoping to go back again next week to see the end of Alderney Week.
XC Weather at the moment is showing good conditions for the end of next week - but of course this may change!

Our plan at the moment is to leave Yarmouth Thursday morning and camp on Alderney until the Sunday. If the wind looks like it may pick up the girls (Pam and Katie) may opt to fly to Guernsey to avoid the long crossing, and we'll head there 1st.
If this is the case we might spend a night on Herm so Katie can tick it off her "to-do" list.

Anyone else want to join us or meet us there?

Trev

As long as it's not raining, the end of week Procession and Fireworks on Saturday night really are spectacular!

Hi Trevor, got your text cheers.

I was originally planning to go up this weekend for the beginning of Alderney Week but with 5's and 6's forecast I don't think so!

As for the week after, I haven't thought that far ahead but if the forecast is good enough for me to warrant booking time off work then I may well go for it.

I'll be in the big boat as the rib's out of action at the mo. Initially I thought it wouldn't be viable to pick the girls up from Guernsey but surprisingly it only adds about 6 miles to the journey, extra half hour and £20 so not the end of the world!

I do remember the last mercy mission to Carteret though...

RIBase
My plan was to go up this Saturday with Cap Breizh who were going to stay on Alderney but they have postponed that until the following week. Pikey Dave is going to be around the Cherbourg area for the next couple of weeks and I had planned to have lunch with him on Monday but I'm sure we could postpone that until the next week and all go round there together?

We may have started out west by then but if the weather here is looking good then it could turn into a really good weekend. I'll highlight this thread to cap Breizh because I'm sure they would be interested to meet up with some of you "British" ribber as they call them.. They are coming over from Cherbourg on Saturday morning and camping at Saye but I'll be heading up from St. Malo.

If it's just Alderney or Guernsey and back I may be able to keep it down to closer to 250 litres.
If I can fuel at Guernsey that'll be under £300 - so cost per day for the family will be £75. Same as a family ticket for Thorpe Park, so I can live with that!

Currently it looks like it will be flat enough for the girls to make the crossing to Alderney on Blue Ray - but we're not sure about the return as yet. At the moment XC weather's showing F4-5 gusting 5 to 6 for Sunday so we're hoping it will drop off for Monday and we'll wait 'til then to return home.

Weather update:

There are several weak lows lazily hanging around the west of the Channel, bringing occasional rain and capping temperatures. The seven day outlook is cloudy, with wind speeds in single digit knots or low teens.

Current plans....
Leave Southampton late morning for Yarmouth.
Nachos in the Wheatsheaf.
Leave Yarmouth in afternoon for Alderney - if it stays a light North / North Easterly that will give us wind with tide for the crossing. Hopefully arrive in Braye Harbour before all the cakes sell out at the sailing club!

Camp at Saye Camp site.

Come back Sunday (Plan A), Monday or Tuesday depending on the weather!.

It was great to see everyone again.

Though I missed the majority of Sunday, ended up busy for 7 hours solid. Finally got showered and changed and had a trek round, including two trip to the airport to try see the private aviation "wing" of Rib.net off.
