Anyone south of the Channel going to Ribex 2010?

Never made it last year due to mechanical issues plus iirc weather wasn't great.

Any other Channel Islanders interested?

Ribex or cross channel? Been to Ribex a few times, cross channel I picked up a 24ft Osprey from Southampton and brought it back, that's about it. Weather was good, SW F3ish, fairly pleasant trip although the breaking surf off the Needles was slightly disconcerting as we approached!

Thinking about this further, I'm thinking leave Jersey friday afternoon and stop the night in Alderney, doing the rest of the trip bright and early next morning to get a full day at the show. Couple of beers in the evening, b&b and back home again sunday.

Ive never been but heard very good stories.
browsing over the website quite alot over the past few months.

Yes I think a stop in Alderney would be Good, and Give me a chance to re fuel.
I would make it from Jersey with about 30-40Ltrs to spare (if my calculations are correct!) But I would rather have a full tank!
You got many going over with you at the moment?

Went to the 1st Ribex in Weymouth and couple of times in Southampton, it's a good day out although quite a few other people think the same

30 litres is probably stretching your luck

, what size is your tank? I should be able to do the whole trip on a tank but will probably top up a bit in Cowes based on what I use to get there.

Just me going so far, only started thinking about it today

Yea I'd like to have a bit more than that just for the unforseen!
Its a 110ltr tank and I got 60ltr reserve. so 170ltr built in.
based on previous trips to Alderney ive used between 50-70ltrs getting there so I'm looking at using 130ltrs getting there from Jersey providing everything went to plan. So a stop in Alderney would put my mind at ease.

Ive done the trip twice before on other boats, but would like to take this boat across as its my own!

Might be easier / cheaper to let the plane take the strain, high speed ferry from Soton tickets are normally half price via Ribex website.

Sounds tempting Matt. If the weathers good, then I'd be up for it. Whether on my own boat or hitching a lift and subsidising your fuel costs. What are the dates?

Martin, surely a day off is a small price to pay, most important for the company to keep up to date with all the latest products and technology

Must admit I've done nothing about accommodation in Cowes as yet, but thank you very much for your kind offer for friday night.

Early days, I used a very homely B&B when I was there last year - less than £30 a night for a single. Bit of a trek from East Cowes but handy for town and the superb Red Duster

I suspect weather is going to be a big influence, what threshold are we thinking of? Bear in mind not everybody has an aircraft carrier with the top chopped off.

In a KY stylee, here is the plan so far (I think?):

Meet up in Alderney for a late lunch on Friday the 7th. Top up tanks, swap passage notes and contact details, check weather etc. I can recommend a beer in the S.C. followed by dinner in the chippy.

Leave early on Sat the 8th, full day at the show then beers and b&b after a bite.

Head back for a relaxed Sunday cruise homeward.

If we can help at all with fuel in Alderney just give us a little warning and quantities and you can collect from the Inner Harbour. Also if you are staying overnight give us a shout and we'll collect you from your mooring in the taxi. Anything else we can help with just let us know.

Very enthusiastic for someone who's not coming!

All sounds good so far, agree the weather is the big question, can be quite horrendous even that close to summer. Although I could probably handle most seas, if it's rough it won't be enjoyable and if I'm not going to enjoy it then I'm not going!

I'll make the assumption it's going to be perfect for now, final decision will be made when I poke my nose past the breakwater.

Couldn't agree more. My decision will be made on whether I can get to my mooring by dinghy without getting tipped out by the surge on the slipway. Lets hope for millpond conditions.

IIRC When Tim organised the tip south he stated from the start what would be enough to stop or delay the trip, perhaps it is nice to know what the threshold is?
