Anyone out tomorrow (Sunday 18th)? Solent or Poole?

I'm planning on being out both today and tomorrow given the great weather. Timings still to be decided but will probably be heading Eastwards out of Poole to catch the Solent high tides for lunch somewhere. What are your plans?

Not a huge amount yet, Go out and run the engine for a while as it's just been dewinterised is as far as I've got.

We planning on being out both days. picnic at Osborne bay today I think. Looks lovely out there today! Just hope it stays!! If you see us stop and say hi!

Meeting Avocet around 11ish then to Ashlett for lunch. I will have youngish crew/daughter so a gentle 25-30kts cruise hopefully

Come one down Nos- looks to be another good day.

I took 'streaker; down the river for a BBQ on the beach at lunch time- very pleasant - then shopping....

Looks like I'm going nowhere tomorrow. The trim/tilt button failed leaving my motor locked tilted. Replaced it, but it was getting dark when the remotes went ping during assembly so I'll have to reassemble them tomorrow

Was thinking, Wooten or Cowes. Ashlett's is a possiblity, but thought the pub had closed and that there was only a members only Yacht club. Care to enlighten me?

The pub did close but re-opened last year. Pete and I went there in Grimalkin a couple of months ago (7 Nov, in fact) on a very high tide and nearly got cut off from the boat when the quay flooded!

The pub was fairly basic but very friendly and welcoming - certainly more so than the one at Wootten. The entrance to Ashlett is interesting: start at 50.49.97N 01.19.64W and from there refer to http://www.ashlettsc.com/Docs/Creek_Info.htm (preferably before you leave home!).

I suspect that we'll be there from just after midday onwards. Hope to see you and anyone else that can make it

So a great day out & glorius sunshine ! However with the tide not quite where it needed to be when we got there we procceded to run both boats aground, lost the tell tale from both engines and I ended up using the anchor to pull myself over the mud.......

The final 100yards taking 30 mins.

But once alongside cleared both engines and then wathed several more ribs come in in another foot of water making it look very easy.

Note to self - if throwing aline to another boat remember to hang on the end - no point Avocet having it if I have let go !

Sounds like an eventful day!! weather has been lovely here today but mixture of a hangover and feeling cold all day ment the only boating i got done was washing her down and putting the cover on!!

Out yesterday the solent reminded us that is usually a nasty choppy place! must spend some time finding bays to anchor sheltered from the wind!!

By unspoken agreement, Pete and I felt that pictures of two Ribnet boats aground on the mud at various angles along the length of the creek would have been too, too shameful..... and so, as you say, the cameras suddenly failed to work

For future note, however: it would seem that at least 3.5m of water is needed at Calshott for access to the creek which give about one hour either side of highish springs.

Also gleaned fropm local knowledge there is a currently unmarked channel which I used to exit the creek avoiding all the bends and which on entry bears approximately 220 degrees towards Ashlett 6 buoy which new channel will apparently be fully buoyed in due course but for which only the final port and starboard boys are currently in place.

Following a trip to the Boat Jumble today I visited Ashlet Creek again for lunch . I can now see exaclty why the 'minor navigational problems' occured as the helpfully pointed out channel is infact only a 2ft wide gap to get the prop & boat into..........

Attached a few pics showing the channel so if you go there you can aim for it ! (Myself & Mrs M can also be spotted in the pictures if you look carefully.) The quote I think was ' I'm not surprised you ran aground and were not in the channel'.

Good God, I'm sure glad I did not bring the Parker, it does not seem wide enough for a twin rig. Having seen the pictures, I think hearty congratulations are in order for making it in & out, regardless of what techniques you had to resort to.
