RIBase
Probable for us (two) - likely launch from Mercury if that's the gathering point on the Hamble.

Nacho run sounds good for the 7th Jan. I was meant to go out today but it's stormy. Count me in for the 7th please. I have joined boat club in Portsmouth so will be coming out from there in a 7.8m ballistic RIB (THEA), I will confirm exact numbers of POB. Maybe I will head to Hamble point area and meet some of you around there at a time that suits.
Regards
James

As David (Avocet) has suggested we meet up in the Wheatsheaf at 12.30 so best to have a bit of play and a photo shoot before lunch at the Needles say approx 11:00 AM .
As there will be a number of ribs coming from Southampton area / Portsmouth lets meet up at Calshot say 10.00 - 10:30 and run together to the Needles.

Is this OK to all ?

Sounds good for us coming down from the Hamble .. Can I just ask that 1030 is a fixed departure from Calshot, there's nothing more frustrating than getting to an RV and everyone's left early 😞 ... cheers, ta.

I agree with Sibbo, that any RV departure times are best fixed to save hanging about or wondering if people have gone early.

Calshot is a great point for those coming out of Southampton / Hamble and points further East. With a number appearing to launch at Mercury 20mins up the Hamble and a couple of hours post low required there to launch with confidence, maybe a couple of informal rally times at Calshot at 1030 and 1100 would better than a single one. I doubt I'll be early enough for a 1030 depart Calshot, but would welcome any company from those planning to be passing Calshot at 1100.

Not as many as in past years but still a good crowd.

I attach an initial List of Participants prepared from the information available to me. Please advise any updates or amendments so that they can be incorporated into the next list. I need to give final figures to the pub and Harbour Authority by Thursday (subject, of course, to weather and final difficulties!). In the meantime, a happy New Year to all.

Yes a good idea to arrange a fixed time for the RV. Since lunch is at 12:30 we need to be in Yarmouth harbour the latest by 12-12:15 cos the mooring will take some time with so many ribs etc

In my humble opinion we should RV at Calshot the latest 10:30 say we depart 10:45 and it is a 30 min run to the Needles arriving say 11:15 so only 45 min play time at the Needles with photo shoot

hopefully we have an agreement

those coming from Poole can meet us at the Needles

Can we agree a VHF CH?

A Happy New Year to all!

Tomorrow is my birthday so I have a double celebration

Hi David,

Looks like I'll be solo this year- MHB who kindly is crewing with me at present in the cold - is jetting of somewhere on business - not sure where his priorities lie!

Probably launching Mercury on Hamble for the record.

Weather permitting, looking forward to it.

Happy new year to you, Mrs A, ans all other ribnetters.

As I can't make it for the official Nacho run next week, I thought I'd get my first nachos for the year in early. Not in Yarmouth but in the Anchor in Cowes. They are (now were) on par with the Wheatsheaf's so would make a good plan B if the weather's not good next week for those starting from the Calshot area. ( This how Bank Holidays in Cowes should always be!.)Click image for larger version

Sadly you will be missed. I have had Nachos at the Anchor in Cowes and they are very good indeed. Let me know when you next plan to be out

Fresh north-easterly winds (Force 5) are currently forecast for Sunday although with wall to wall sunshine. That could create some interesting conditions in the Solent and off The Needles! Those coming from Poole may want to hug the coast to get as much protection as possible and we may forego The Needles. It is, however, likely to change between now and then so watch this space. Suggest that we use CH08 for comms on the day.

In the meantime, here's an updated List of Participants:

Have assumed that Chris' FPO will give the thumbs up and I attach the final list on the basis of which I have today contacted The Wheatsheaf and Yarmouth Harbour Office and informed them of our plans. Obviously, they remain subject to the weather for which the forecast remains as Force 5 North-Easterlies in bright sunshine which will be acceptable for Grimalkin. The pub have asked me to contact them again on Sunday morning with any tweaks in final numbers so still let me know of any changes in numbers or changes of heart.

Subject thereto, I suggest that the Poole contingent meets up off the RYMC (by the Bell Buoy) at 11.15am in order to go over together. Comms CH08 for late arrivals! I believe you all have my mobile number for no-shows so we don't wait in vain.

Hopefully see you all on Sunday

David
