I travelled with my friend in his boat "Thumper". We and two other ribs left from Ardglass, NI.

Just a short video clip, from the trip. Fog was terrible to and from the IOM!

Well done to all who made it, fog looked nasty. Watched the racers today on tv, even more nuts than the ribbers making the crossing. ours is out the water tomorrow getting work done and put on the diagnostic. One day I'll make it across.

Take 10 lads, 3 ribs (willk, donegaldan, tonymac "Cáit" and parm "Thumper"), introduce them as strangers on a foggy Ardglass slip at 0800, 50 minutes before a passage to the IOM.... What could possibly go wrong?

For once however, Murphy's Law looked the other way and we were off! After a quick counseling session to convince my plotters that they were BOTH going to Douglas via the Calf of Man Sound, we slipped into the fogbank and stayed there until we (almost) hit Man. The Sound was interesting, but relatively benign. The next visual was of the lighthouse at Douglas.

At the quay wall we were met by those Excellent Individuals, Brian* and Cypman who were even better than their word and ran the shore marshaling like a Professional Event - many thanks guys, give us a chance to return the favour soon!

Good to meet BruceB and his charming MissusB (she's virtually a neighbour of mine, as it happens). Also completely failed to meet DM but left a calling card on his transport

My big thanks go to the company I traveled with - sound lads all, running smooth teams in fairly miserable conditions.

The last pic below shows Cáit being pursued by the IOM Airforce. You're supposed to LEAVE money in the IOM, Tony

My crew hard at work ....

This was us watching the TT (well not ACTUALLY watching - but looking at the road the TT SHOULD have been going through on as that little thing called mist descended on the island mountain road and delayed the races. Too late for us to stay.)

Enjoyed the sunshine on Man.

The trip there and back was REAL interesting! The Calf Sound was nice to us as Willk says and it looks like there may be some really interesting cliffs along the east coast - but we only got a hint of them before the fog descended again.

Public thanks to Willk and Donegaldan - so glad your plotters worked fine - I couldn't see mine, the fog buggered up my glasses so much I ended up taking them off - much to the consternation of my crew!

I would have loved a photo of said crew when I hit the lumpy stuff and Cait attempted to imitate the IOM airforce for a short while! Willk believed their faces were something to be remembered!!

Many thanks to the company we had on the trip - and the people we met. It certainly makes a real difference to your ribbing when you meet and travel with others.

When are we doing it again?????

sometime in summer eh? On a calm day with brilliant sunshine so we can see the coastline, the dolphins/basking sharks etc. (and I can stay over then as our friends always leave the island at TT time

). So someone have a feel of the seaweed and pick the days the weather will all come together

Just to get the ball rolling, how about an overnight trip to Peel in August?
Favourable tides on Sat 14th and Sun 15th would allow for arrivals through the flapgate on Saturday between 1300hrs and 1700hrs with departures on the Sunday between 1340 and 1740 (times approx).
I could fix accommodation (from campsite to 5 star!!!) and arrange for an evening meal at a local eatery.
For those of you only able to make an east coast destination Douglas is available with similar flapgate times and I could co-ordinate the evening join-up. Moorings are also available in Douglas outer harbour but are not recommended in easterlies.
Just an idea, would welcome your thoughts.

It looks scary in the fog Ged, but not as scary as having the fuel sloshing around. I shall have to come along and provide medical supervision next time. Good to know you all made it back safely.

Just like to add my thanks to Ian for the hospitallity we recieved on arrival.
Adding to Wavelengths figures we logged 110 nautical miles average speed 27 knots max speed 37 knots and used 84 litres of fuel. Both boats used similar amounts of fuel, Dave's worked out with a calibrated dip stick mine by reading the engine ECU.

I did not get many pictures, but I see Parm has one of myself and wavelength entering the harbour out of the fog.
