Raid at Bembridge Harbour

Iv'e just had a call from Bembridge Outboards to let me know that my rib along with a number of others were stolen last night from the harbour at Bembridge. Apparently police have found one on Hayling Island.
Mine is a new Avon 560, blue tubes, Double A-Frame, with a 90 optimax saltwater on the back. I will post details of numbers and a picture etc. once know more. I'm not sure what time the tide was last night, but this looks to have been a well planned hit!
Having had a family bereavement this week, I could have done without this....please keep an eye open and an ear to the ground.

Nick

Sorry to hear about your loss(es), Nick. I will also keep an eye peeled during my patrol in Pompy Harbour on Sunday morning. Full details of boat would be appreciated before then if poss.

I will be down in Seaview (with RIB in Bembridge??????) at the end on the month for a couple of weeks - perhaps a beer in The Old Fort could be arranged.

Looks like we may have located mine and others....Hayling Is / Langstone Harbour Area...apparently 2 arrests....attempted escape of 2 others in one of 6 ribs stolen! police helicopter tracking remaining two over some marshes after they ditched one of the bigger ribs stolen.

I wish I had been there to see it all! sounds like a bungled Italian Job with Ribs!

I'll let you know the outcome.....cheers to all who replied.

Nick

Thanks again to all for messages of support....I spoke to Cowes Police launch tonight and apparently all 6 Ribs have been recovered and where undergoing forensic tests this afternoon. 2 of the gang of 4? are in custody and I am going across tomorrow to get the boat back with the guys from Bembridge Outboards. Apparently there is some damage to a number of the Ribs, although I'm hopeful that it's limited. The Police think that the Scum were local to the Island.......So I look forward to bumping into them in the street (we're a small community)

Peter (Ribald) according to one of the Bemb Outboards chaps, this is a first in the harbour, so you should be safe enough! let me know when your'e down. And thanks to Louise for the kind messages. And Riva....what's a scanner then? niave...you see!

Cheers Guys

Nick

So if there was 4 men, I guess they towed 2 of the 6 boats ...... couldn't have been a fast get-a-way to Hayling! Unless the police missed 2 people!

I have noticed that on this forum, a boat has been reported stolen almost every month for about 18 months, boat theft seems to be getting more frequent!!

It great news your boat is back, and I hope there is no damage.

hi Nick,

I do work for bembridge outboards and i collected your boat today. the damage is not drastic. a couple of handles pulled of the tubes and control smashed, teeth on fly wheel wornout. should be all back to normal soon.

i hope they catch all the scum...........

Sorry to hear about all this trouble you had Nick. Lucky you got the RIB back and looks like your boat will be fixed shortly. However, it will be interesting to find out what was the nationality of those thieves.
