RIB'ing Around Oban 2019

Its been a very busy year at sea for me this year ..and Im loving every moment of it.

This is the first video of a Box Set of three and covers three days with Fast RIBs around the Oban area. The next videos of the set will be slightly delayed as Im heading back to Oban to have a week of SIB, ing with some other friends at the weekend.

I hope you are all having as good a spring run as Im having. I have fallen far behind with trying to make all my trips into videos..but will try to catch up in stormy weather days.

Thanks for watching..and I hope you enjoy the fast action for this normally slow going guy

Best Regards
The Gurnard

A wonderful and addictive film as always - thank you.

Whereabouts is the white sand beach in the title sequence?

Hi Dr Hook .. many thanks for your kind words on the videos.

The opening sequence shows a part of Balfour’s bay on the Ross of Mull.

Its where David Balfour ...the hero of R.L.Stevenson’s classic novel “Kidnapped” was washed ashore when the ship hit the Torran Rocks. It is our destination on day three so I dont want to spoil that video by showing more of it yet.

However the whole area has stunning sandy beaches and scenery .

This bay below ..not so far from Balfours bay ... is in my opinion one of the best bays in the area. Its why it often pays to slow the boats down and get in close .

This scene has hung on many walls as its popular with painters and artists.

And of course the water is crystal clear

I hope I help pay for my trips on the RIB’s with my local knowledge as I often go by small boat or even kayak .

Hi Kerny ..if Im honest..the only thing that was missing from this trip was …

your good self and also Mr Jingles too … hopefully next time though

Thank you - found it on the map.
There's lots to be said for reconnaisance by small boat and it's the local knowledge that gets you the idyllic quiet spots. Always handy.

Wishing you many more adventures this year!

Hi again Chris ..thanks for looking in.

Yes.. they all spoil me rotten.

Not only do the Guy’s n gals take me on the boats ..but they often feed me .. and make me feel like Im on holiday too. It is proof that the Scots and English can survive and gain from one another !!

As a poor pensioner ... I can never repay them ..but they are happy when I tell them Gurnard tales over a pint of Guinness or three.

Its adventures like these as well as the friendships that have formed that make life long memories for us all.

Sometimes forums are full of arguments and words of warriors .. but “The family” all met through RIBNET forum ..so its very worth reading the mince to get to the real meat of things

My pleasure to have your company for two days. Despite these being home waters to me you have an incredible knowledge of the coastline and I learned a lot of features and geography I often cruise past . The " chrome handles" I hope we're never needed for safe cautious driving ! Look forward to part 2 and 3

Hi GeoffW .. words dont express how much I appreciated the past few days

In your RIB.. I certainly found there was no need for Chrome Handles. I loved the loops on the floor for my big boots. That left one hand free to hold the Gopro and the other hand free to hold my hat on. I think I would fit floor loops too if I had a RIB..its far easier on arms in a chop.

Hi jeff ..yup the Ross of Mull is something special..thats why St Columba built Iona there. Just say the words and we can meet again for more adventures. Im free after mid June until the end of the year..although I hope to be at sea somewhere when the weather allows.

Hi Tony t ..thanks again ..its the company that makes these meeting so special. I dont think I have ever been in a group of people who all get on so well together. Everyone has left their mark in my heart so look forward to the next time .. big time.

My SIB on a trailer is now attached to the car ..just some shopping and ironing to do then Im heading for Oban again. So day two and three videos will be assembled when I return next weekend. Do look back to see some more great RIB’ing shots and some stunning scenery.

Best regards to all

Another great week in Ribbing Paradise!...Big thanks to everyone involved!!!...especially Douglas and Donny for their usual great input...help..and expert guidance

Incidentally....The Gurnard is not ONLY a truly great source of of Sage like Boating knowledge...(and all things Scottish)and seems to know every nook and Cranny of the West Coast! with stories about most of them!...a filmmaker....raquantour...and accomplished musician..we also by accident found out he's also an Artist of some skill and no small talent!!..a real Man for all seasons!.. and someone who we "Southerners"are all proud to call our friend!

Can’t fault Douglas and Donny massive thank you. It’s one thing to have an idea of where to go it’s a different world with an on board live “sat nav” [emoji1] that is also a tour guide and an education. Thank you both. Donny the videos are the icing on the cake and let us all re live it [emoji120]

" get on so well together" l can't imagine what gave you that impression!

Mrs Raptor is never off my case. Mrs Miss Isle thinks I'm way too lippy and cheeky and if you dis the dog. Big trouble! Neil pushed Matt into the water in Balfours Bay. And Tony locked Matt in his car for 2 hours for fun. And that's before we get on to politics and the 6 nations. We barely get on at all !!!
