New York Fire Dept

Looked out of my apt window and saw lots & lots of FDNY trucks around a busy intersection.Apparently a huge drain has collapsed forcing lots of 'brown dirty stuff ' to bubble up through the road surface.Phew !!!!

But look closely and you can see what the Fire Dept have on top of their Fire engine.See what they use when there's a tough job to be done?

I hope it doesnt get so bad that i need to get the rib out to go the shop for some milk.

PS is it this weekend that Tim was saying he is in NY ?

Fire Depts in many (most?) cities here are sort of Fire/Rescue/Paramedic/stuck-animal/whatever-else type services. While I am surprised they (NYFD) carry an inflatable on their truck, it sort of makes sense: they'd be first response for things like bodies floating in the Jackie O Reservoir, or someone falling into the Long Island Sound.

My sister recently moved to NYC, but I haven't gotten a late read on weather there (partially because I was out of touch up on the North Coast [Calif] chasing abalone.)

just got back.

What street/avenue was this on liverbird? I saw that firetruck go past our hotel one morning. Something that really irritates me is how they drive around holding the horn down when it is completely unnecessary to do so.

Cod, you're right about those potholes, its worse than the isle of wight and thats saying something! We saw them close of a block at 1am and resurface the whole road in about 10 minutes while all the traffic waited, a bit weird that was.

Liverbird, I didn't see you in your rib while i was out on the staton island ferry?! saw a couple of coastguard ribs though.
