My old rib by Sonar

Here are a few pictures of my old rhib
A 1998 Avon adventurer.
fitted with 2 x Honda bf 50 outboard engines.

A large consul and two jockey seats fitted.
The fuel tank holding 96 ltrs of fuel ( Petrol ) is housed within the consul.
and has a front built in seat.

I use it mainly for a bit of sea fishing.

I have heard the searider mentioned before.

When I bought it I was told it was an Avon adventurer 5.6 mtr
Then Like you I was told it was a Searider.

Yes it has quite a big consul as well.

Well it was fist made for the Swansea council as a beach patrol in 1998 but seldom used.

When I bought it only a few hours on the clock.
Now i am up to 350 plus hours.

The plate on the back says Adventurer D5 .60 1998.

So now I don't know what I have!!!

It does for sure have a deep V hull and as I have said a few people have said searider.

Well there's something the forum may be able to help with.

The width is from the outside to the outside of the tubes 2.350mm
at the stern .

The tubes have a circumference 1.075mm

The tubes have rubbing strakes afixed to the main tubes and 5 air chambers.

Searider or not that is the question ?

def is not a 560, wrong data plate likely, its a Avon 6m Searider for sure, this was my 560 and its nothing lke your beast!!

OR

was it a commercial specced 560 (still looks physically longer) with a sr transom (hole in middle) the transom knees are identical to my 560 and i see you have under deck cabling. the tuber are 100% SR

was this boat a one off special??

have a look at the tubes chassis number< up the front on the inside , there will be a chassis number, like the one shown in the next pic,
They will match the Hull number or should do>

contacy Avon direct and ask them , maybe a one off special!!

There is No plate at that end just one fixed to the inside of the transom. Photo to follow...

there is one on the outside on the transom reads ( GB ) AVB 1985 5E 898.
there is also an imprinted number on the hull reversed numbers

It may well have been a custom made item just for Swansea council.

Your rib seems so much newer than 1998 I may be wrong there though.

Mine seems very commercial with the rubbing strakes and large consul.

But as everyone is saying Searider maybe its a hybrid .
But I do know it was made for Swansea council and nothing has been altered on it.
Also it was made for twin engines as the drain Elephants trunk is in the middle of the transom.

I will photograph the plate and post it here.
But it deffo says AVON ADVENTURE D5.60 1998.

I must have a custom bitsa ??

Just looking again at the pics of your 560.
And so much of it looks the same. well yours looks a lot more updated newer shaped mouldings but very close.

As I have all the details I guess Avon may have some records of it I hope.

yeh its a 98 model,(there must be a identical date plate on the tubes as they are commercial spec)...

the 560 remained unchanged since its conception,i used outhill a outhill consol and seats, which were rubbish your consol, is a ribcraft consol off a 545 mtr, measure the inner hull length, would be interested to hear the length,

the tube number will be normally stamped Hypolon bonded to the tube on the inside, easy to miss as maybe very low,, (this will determine if the numbers match it came out of the factory as you have it now and all your questions will be answered) as avon will shed light on the build.

if they dont match then the military tubes and Ribcraft consol were put on afterwards< more to the point ... WHY??

Avon will definately help with info if you give them the chassis number, ask for Tony Steadman on the Avon Mil pro side in Wales

It's looking like a custom rib so I guess whomever ordered it must have stated what they required.

Back around '94, Avon created the Diveboat D5.60, which was rated to 115hp max. These boats had a squared off bow toob, like the later 5.60 Adventures, which I believe inherited the hull from the D5.60. The boats had a medium-ish vee hull and a raised bow. They weren't the best in ruff seas and the hull had a tendency to slide out in turns. They never gained the popularity of the Searider range. I'm pretty sure this RIB is a D5.60, with reinforced toobs as fitted to Seariders. If you take a look at the spray rails, these are different on a SR6. The HIN suggests it is '98, so that would fit in with the time of transition from the D5.60 to the Adventure 560 and the badge on this boat incorporates aspects of both names.

The console looks like quite a few I've seen on RIBS from that era in West Wales. I don't believe these were all supplied by Ribcraft.

It came from Swansea council as a beach patrol vessel so wales will be right .
Like you have said it's probably 2 types of rib in one.
Maybe the best of two types.

However the new SR670 & SR760 ribs have the same consul.
Hoping to get a reply from Avon soon.
