Final picture...South Dock Marina, Snapper's home for the Summer.

I haven't seen too many Ribs on the Thames, but if anyone comes to visit, I'd be happy to help and come along as have learnt quite a bit about this amazing stretch of river, i.e. where to moor, eat etc.

Hi Tim,

Looks like fun on the Thames in a rib. Only done it on a sailing yacht (nearly thumped Tower Bridge - have not been back since)

Gingercoastie is looking for a trip; see http://www.rib.net/forum/showthread.php?t=5085

I was very nervous about moving the Rib to the Thames after the Solent. The current can be very strong, however it's turned out to be a great place to keep a Rib. East of Wandsworth Bridge, i.e. all through Central London and out to the estuary there is no speed limit. I have talked to the Harbour Master and the River Police, and they are quite OK if you turn on the power, as a planing boat doesn't put out too much wash and as long as you drive responsibly while there are other boats around. On a clear stretch, just beyong the MI5 building, I touched 50mph. The only risk is debris in the water, so you don't want to do that too much.
For more tranquil cruising, where there's an 8 knot limit, Putney, Barnes, Chiswick Richmond etc make a very calm days boating.
For water skiing, I think you need to go down to Southend as unfortunately they don't allow it on the Thames

Yes, I remember seeing you...now I know your Rib, will come over next time.

I have never been East of South Dock (Surrey Quays) and would very much like to do so...Do you have any recomendations of places within reasonably easy reach where you can stop for lunch etc... I'd like to try the Medway, but is that too far? How about Southend, is it worth visiting? Are there any dangers to look out for?

What I would really like to do is take the Rib back to the Solent for the month of August...is it feasable to go by sea? I have a 250 litre fuel tank, but the motor can be thirsty.
