"Marinated" shark

We went for a spin in Faxaflói the other night where we came across this big shark..... good time for catching to have it marinated and ready for the Icelandic mid winter festival..... anyway we skipped that thought and continued our trip to a lighthouse island Þormóðssker (Thormodssker) where we had break and left the boat on anchor couple of hours later we went back to Reykjavík in the night and dead flat sea.

Possibly expensive! They are protected here now I think. We saw a number of Scotland last month but they were all small our charter skipper said he hadnt seen any larger ones for a while which isnt to good.

They used to be hunted for an easy source of illegal "cod" liver oil (I think) not sure how good they are to eat as they move slowly, not the sort of thing I'd start on as not sure if I could manage a whole one, turkey is bad enough at crimbo.

They are popular for sharks-fin soup too - sadly they have been hunted in large numbers.

Bogi - hopefully the marinated shark you're talking about tastes better than the traditional rotten shark I tried when I visited Iceland!!!
