Jono,

What sort of temperature do they get the water down to ?
Is it kept at a realistic temperature or is it heated like a swimming pool.

Having said that looks like the best piece of training equipment I have seen for any sort of training.

Cool pool

I ran a Sea Survival course there shortly after it opened and it is "ambient" temperature - i.e. heated from the air around it. That meant the temperature for our course in November was around 22 degrees C. That's cold enough but still warmer than the english cahnnel ever gets.

Nice but I don't think it can beat the Lowestoft College where they have Maritime & Offshore Training Facilities see http://www.lowestoft.ac.uk/maritime.asp

some years ago I had an opportunity to participate in the making of a promotion video for Jason's Cradle with a 5 mtr rib (I was actually one of the so called "survivors" ) The College has a great pool with wave making machines, wind making facilities, overhead large shower type heads to simulate rain ect . They have the possibilities to simulate very real conditions.

Worth a visit if you get the chance

Try spending an hour in a liferaft during one of simulated storms!! A liferaft is the last place I want to be...(unless I really have to....obviously). It really makes you appreciate the advice that, should you need to use one, always 'step-up' into your raft!!

It also doesn't help that most of the Sea Survival courses at the college run Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday - with the pool session on Tuesday, just after lunch...

And lunch on Tuesdays is a carvery...... yum yum......

Did anyone chuck their guts up?

Carl was on the SS a few weeks ago when i was on my Helms course, a young lad from Moelfre chucked up all over him.

One of the crew on the other raft did - we were OK!!

I wouldn't have wanted to swim in the pool after an SS session... or clean the filters...
