but consumption ..............

In Greece a company called Xtreme Marine makes a 33ft open and closed RIB with stepped hull. The closed RIB looks aufull like a house on tubes but the open is quite nice!!
Had a look at the open in the previous RIB X in Athens and I was quite impressed the hull had nice lines and it seemd like it was well made. I'm going there tonight for a 2nd inspection Most lilkely they will have one there and will take some photos.
Is a very nice boat and apparently it cruises at 25 knots with top speed at 38knots with an Envinrude 150 4stroke it takes up to 300bhp twins and with that configuration its top speed is at 65-70 knots according to the builders!!
The price of the open is at 40,000 Euro with everything on it inc 150Evinrude 4-stroke, VHF, GPS, wash basin, shower, 400 ltr fuel tank, 200 water, cooker trailer, boat cover!! etc
I will ask for a test drive see how it handles, but a friend of mine who has been on it he says that is quite good. Will see.
Seems that this is my next project!

At this size of ribs

One must have a suitcase size wallet.

Manos, I cant' imagine that 31 footer consuming between 1 and 1,5 lit/mile. Think: It's a 2 ton rib + 400 lit fuel + motor + etc = almost 3 ton maybe more. (Much more if she was mine). In my point of view it's rather impossible to speed up to 38 knots (as they claim), burning 1,5 lit per mile.

As he explained to us Michael the speed and consumption figures he quoted (the boat weight is 1600kgs, with a single 250 goes up to 1900 and with fuel etc about 2300/2400 kgs) is because it has lower sea friction area due to the steps than the other boats. Now that is what this manufacturer says.
So, we have to test it at the end of April in Greece. We have been invited and I will be there to see if what the guy said is true or not

.

OK BYE ME.
We must have a 30 lit tank, plug it on the outboard and see how long it lasts. I can almost bet that it should not last more than 15 miles.
Those motors burn more or less 2,5 lit/mile. Considering the hi-tech hull I assume that she could give a 20% less fuel consumption.
