OKay, i'm sure i am missing the point, and i'm not old enough to remember Jackanory but, JF thinks it averaged 70.58mph, Manos says it's 61.29 knts which by my reckoning is 70.5mph. Now which part don't i understand?

OK, I worked out the average speed based on Falcon boats post saying the race was over 1000 km, and they took 8:47

quote:Final time for the 1000km race was 8 hours 47 minutes.
my sarcastic tone was because this would be superhuman in that boat/class, it now seems the race is over 669km (415 statute miles) which makes the average speed 47.2mph a little more plausable.

and well done to falcon for their win! (why didn't they say 669km's?)

PS, Manos, you're a silly boy!

I think Wavenobbers post fron Boatmad sums it up.

I think I now know where the 1000 miles comes from. Each day race is in two parts, the longhaul coastal section every day for about 130 miles for five days. Then in the afternoon they have circuit racing at the days destination that seems to be for about 70 miles a day and isn't recorded on the elapsed time

However the publicity says the trans aquilla race over a 1000 kms and then give the elapsed time for the longhaul racing which is in fact 669 kms. Any further expalnaition see me in the pub.

I think it's a good format actually and provides spectator opportunities and a longhaul challenge.

hi all

i notice a lot of correspondence about speed going on here - the race is advertised in all correspondence to participants as 1000km, however am not certain how they measure it - distance by road approx 750km. Average shift speeds attained according to GPS on the raceboat was between 75 and 95kph depending on the water conditions - peak for this race was 112kph, but the boat has peaked 125,8 (on GPS) at a previous race with absolutely flat water conditions. Boat was a Falcon 700RSR (modified for racing) with Yamaha 150hp V6, with custom-built dual hydraulic steering. I hope this clears up much of the confusion and my apologies for any misleading information.

And to convert things around

95 km / 1.853 km = 51 knots

75 km / 1.853 km = 40 knots

112 km / 1.853 km = 60.44 knots

125.8 km / 1.853 km = 67.89 knots!!

That is a very fast hull!!

Well done again and again!!

falcon rib

please bear in mind that this is a racing set-up - a standard 700rsr with standard 150hp motor would only get up to about 90kph / 48 knots
