Is that site made up from private submissions? Or is it a specific group of pros or one bloke that go(es) around taking all the pics for that site?

Having looked closer and spotted my first mate aboard it must have been taken two years ago at the bournemouth air show. I've looked at the prices to purchase, at 40 quid I think I will change my occupation.

I've spotted two different photo blokes on the water last year, I think they just snap away and advertise their sites on a banner on their boats.

I do wonder whether they would be falling foul of some data protection or privacy laws. I expect some people out there don't want to have a photo taken and it be posted on the web.

Nope, 'cos they own the picture. It's like that stupid barryboys site, whenever one of the chavs actually joins the site for an argument they always ask for their numberplate to be blanked from the photo or their face to be blanked. However there is no legal obligation for the copyright holder to do so since they own the photo regardless of the content.

I rather suspect that you're right. I have had occassion to put some photos of the public on my website and advice has been that written consent is required. The Data Protection bloke wasn't amused by my webcam either .

Google Earth goes to great lengths to avoid faces and reg numbers.

I believe it comes down to whether the person was just a bystander in the shot, or whether you specifically took a photo of them. The latter would require consent, whereas under the former, if you are in a public place then you have to expect that you might end up on someone's holiday snaps. I would think the specific rib photos ought to only be displayed by permission. Whether you have to get permission, or whether you just have to remove it if the subject asks, I'm not sure. Pro photographers usually get a consent form signed if they want to sell a photo of you.

Yep I think your right, my concern really wasn't for myself as I don't give a monkees but there might be some people out in their boats who would rather not have images published for a range of reasons. And of course boat theft is on the increase especially large engines. It's not difficult to work out where boats are moored up.

Could be bit of a bugger if a pic of yourself and your bit on the side gets posted all over the net, invasion of privacy isn't it?

Yeah...here's one of mine......

http://www.boatphotos.co.uk/photo1777237.html

This brings me onto another subject, I will be shortly organising a charity raffle to raise money for (initially) the Hamble inshore lifeboat.
This will probably be around April time when the weather around the Solent improves since the winner (and up to three guests) will win a trip out to the deep water anchorage on either Phenix, Apex Tenax or Vortex to connect up and escort in a VLCC. Lunch/Dinner will be provided with a round trip normally lasts about 6 hours.

I will start a thread shortly giving more details but for now, to test to the water....would you lot be interested? Be around 5 quid a ticket.

Simon
