Basking Sharks at last!

We've had almost no basking sharks this season. Today they showed up - we saw maybe ten fish off Malin Head. Apologies for the lousy phone video. Before anyone complains about our proximity, the helm is an experienced shark tagging driver and mostly kept out of their way. There were a lot of them and they had no issues approaching us...

Dum-dum, dum-dum, dum-dum!

We scan the water every year at Carradale as my Mrs has never seen one or Dolphins. No luck yet but it's a good excuse to keep going back!

Nice video!

Now that's good footage from a phone almost bouncing of the boat as well

Very cool! Those are super rare in the USA.

Great day out with the sharks

Happened to be on the same boat as Willk this afternoon
Couple additional pictures, conditions a little rougher than normal for Basking sharks to feeding on the surface.
They have been particularly rare this year and we were surprised to see so many arrive at once.
As you can see, tags were being deployed by basking shark teams...
Great day out

More wildlife - Heads up - Whitby Whales

I would recommend Whitby this coming weekend.
The Whale watching company that operates
out of the harbour, having had very little to be excited about all year
now has had several sightings at 3, 5 and 7 miles out in the last few days,
due to the late arrival of the Herring this year.
Expect Minke and Humpback.
