Yamaha 5hp Reed Valve (1980s)

Wanted 5hp Reed Valve for a 1980s Yamaha 2 stroke outboard. It has the blue casing with stripes which I think is mid to late 80s.

I am willing to give it a shot! Just put the 5hp up for sale but how much do you want for it and postage?

It may well be. I am going to strip my one down to show the part as you have photographed it. Please hang on to the part until I can confirm if that's ok?
Many thanks
Andrew

No worries, pretty sure mines all complete, its a long shaft minus a gearbox. God compression etc. so should have some good bits on it.

Oh so what could be the problem - I was told it was the reed valve! It was coughing out of the carb apparently.

I am not familiar with this engine but generally a cough or sneeze is caused by bad timing or running too lean.

I would have thought there is more to it than not. The engineer spent an hour on it! I wonder if the compression had gone or something. Hohum will have to strip it down but I bet you can't get parts for it any more.

You will have no problem getting parts for it. Is the plastic air box still there?
