Wanted - Yamaha 240hp in-board diesel

I need to upgrade my Yamaha 165 hp diesel for the 240 version. Ideally I would like to part exchange for a new or reconditioned lump. But any leads/ideas gratefully received.

Cheers

Thanks for lead, Pete, but, yes, it does. My RIB's got the Yamaha 165 and I'm told that I can simply lift that out and replace it with the 240 without any mods to the set up. I need more power and this seems the simplest solution...

Is this not the same??

Mike

Might be completely wrong, but is the Yam 240, not really exact the same engine as the Yanmar 300hp range, but in a different colour - am pretty sure, but is worth checking with, Barrus,, if you can get an answer??

Pete

They are based on the same block but they are different engines.

One immediately obvious difference is that the Yamaha exhaust goes through the leg while the Yanmar requires a separate exhaust installation. I don't think that the mountings are the same either.

OK Stuart. I'll keep you posted on my plans. What sort of time scale are you looking at to acquire my Yamaha? We can talk price in due course.

Actually, the point that Pete made about the Yanmar 300 being the same block as the Yamaha got me thinking. I spent some time at RIBEX on Friday looking at both the Yamaha 240 and the Yanmar 300 and reckon they will both fit in the existing engine box - just. The Yanmar is marginally shorter because the B3 leg appears to be more compact than the Yamaha drive.

Obviously, because the Yamaha legs are the same for both 165 and 240 engines, fitting the 240 may be the (slightly) easier option. But having tried to keep up with Brian Elliot in Cyanide this weekend at the SW bash I feel Magellan Alpha would be soooo much better with 300hp shoving 'er along.

Now gotta talk to some dealers and see what's what...

I was at Ribex on Saturday, and those Yanmars are nice lumps, I also thought the Steyrs were very compact.

I want the engine for a project I have in mind, so I don't have a timescale but I like Yamaha Diesels and if there is a deal going on one then that's the time to start the project. So the timing i sup to you!

Cheers
Stuart
