12 volt pump

Hi, couldn’t see this asked already. What pump would you recommend for inflating a rib, preferably 12 volt ?

Hello from me too.

I wonder what you want to do with the pump... carry onboard to top up tubes... inflate a whole RIB that's been deflated for storage... or something else??

Quite a large selection of pumps out there now thanks to the sup/air frame tent markets.

Historically always went with high volume two stage dedicated boat pumps from the likes of Bravo/Genova, but fed up with high prices, a few years ago tried a couple of cheapies from Sevylor and the Hiks generic type. They were in fact much cheaper then: single stage Sevylor 190l/m at £40 and dual stage 340/70l/m Hiks type at £55. Unfortunately these have got far more expensive recently.

Had high hopes for the two stage Hiks but the single stage Sevylor at 190l/m is by far the faster of the two. The high volume fan stage of the Hiks changes over to high 70l/m piston mode at such low pressure making progress painfully slow. Both have proved reliable though.

At today’s prices reckon a Bravo BTP 12 is back in the frame and better value if your inflating from scratch. The 450/160l/m low/high pressure modes makes short work of inflating which the newer pumps can’t get anywhere near.

Having said that, we are just topping up tubes in season as keep all boats inflated, and the Sevylor has become our favourite go to pump. Light, simple and reliable we keep one on both ribs plus another one for the sib. Run them off a cheap 12v 7ah rechargeable battery for the sib and direct off the accessory socket on the rib.
