Schools head of the river race - London

Monday saw this year's head of the river race on the Tideway in London - Mortlake to Putney.

My school boatclub was there. Here are a few photos of the event, some of RIBs, some not:

1. Zodiac marshalling RIB
2. Our first eight, about half way along the 4 1/2 mile course.
3. Little Zodiac from St Pauls school.
4. Assorted RIBs and "Seastrike" aluminium boats "burning" it down the river after the race.

i can,t beleve the safety boats that are used on the thames for rowing clubs
where we use the slip at popar they use two 3m tenders how the hell would you get a full crew in them if a boat sunk i don,t know

it seems the club with the rib have the right idear
when rag and stick clubs have loads of ribs

how would all this lot fit in one 3m tender

Tell me about it; we use an eton coaching launch which seats two - try rescuing an eight with that!

We did try using my RIB as a coaching/rescue boat for a little while but the wash it created was just too much for rowers...

Our Rowing club next door to the sea cadets has a nice ribcraft 4mtr odd with a nice obm, got with a grant, it only puts to sea when its flat calm. They seem to have some strange rules,like only some of the coxns wear lifejackets erst of crew dont??
