Transom saver

Until recently I'd never heard of these. I will only be trailer ingredients my Honwave T40 about 1 1/2 miles to and from the slipway. I intend to keep the engine on all the time. Is a transom saver necessary?

Should be fine over such a short distance as long as you don't go flying over loads of speed bumps.
When I take my trailered sib and go camping I keep the engine on once I set up camp - I'm happy to tow it 15 miles or so at sedate speeds from camp to launch site and back.
Depending on your trailer set up it might be easy to fashion a makeshift transom saver from wood.

I have trailered my Zodiac sib down to Spain and back many times over, and never used a transom saver, all was fine, I now trail my RIB same journey and home to the sea, in the UK however I do use a block of wood on the RIB engine.

RIBase
Block of wood or plastic between engine and clamp plus strap down to hold firm travel for miles no probs.

Cheers

Ive towed boats all around Australia without using any support brackets but must admit these were Australian built boats which are normally over built to take bigger engines than the European market. One trip topped up 14500km, much of which was off road.

The build of my zodiac 550 pro is very light compared to boats I've been used too, so for my last trip away ( a relatively short trip of 7500km ) I invested in a transome support. The reason I chose this bracket was because it transfers the outboard weight to the trailer not the boat. The adjustable length and heavy spring mean I can have the engine trimmed down to a lower height and the spring helps when driving on rough corrugated dirt roads.

This is the type I use Boat Motor Trailering Support 20-1/2" - 31" Adjustable Transom Saver-five Oceans - WatersportsNgear.com

Thanks Jeff,

looks pretty simple. Do you think this would be ok for my Honwave and Tohatsu (52kg)?

Blocks of wood and even the properly made outboard wedges don't take the flexing away from the transom, they just slightly reduce it.

dont get any flexing with mine this is my current set up bunks on tubes and on on the keel, ratchet strap from two strops around the eye bolts on the boat down to the trailer, not got a pic of the block in situe, but block in and ratchet strap back around boat strops to keep engine tight. been doing it that way for over forty years with no probs.
of course there are other ways but it works for me no need to change.
