Rib Weights,? A little help Please

First post, and after a little help please ?

In the process of selling a sail sportsboat (Melges24) which is on a Hydro-Hoist,in Torbay,and want to put a rib back on to the hoist

The hoist is a EuroLift 25 with a 2500 kg lift capacity,, what i would like to find out,, want is the max size/type of rib i should be going for to keep in the weight limit

been thinking along the lines of a Ribtec 6.5 etc the boats only to be used for local days out, coastal hops etc

any help would be usefull,,Thanks in advance

That boat should be much less than the capacity, when you consider a P22 is about 2200kg.....

Hi Tim and welcome to RIBnet.

My 7.5m Tornado with 200hp Mercury Optimax weighs in at 1290kg (checked on a proper weigh-bridge by Barnet Marine). This is with with a full fuel tank (200 litres) and all kit on board. The boat has a large console, 4 pod seats and double stainless-steel A frame, so it's not a particularly light RIB!

Your proposed 6.5 should be well within your 2.5 tonne limit.

My 6.5 Vipermax all up is around a tonne, so you'll be well in. Why go to the expense of putting it in one of those things? Why not leave it in the water like the rest of us and save yourself a few quid?.

Because its there !! no antifouling/no weed, no on/off the trailer all the time !!,and allready have the mooring !!! but thanks for the post
Selling the Melges after 5 years, lookes like its going to Norway, When i bought the hoist, the idea was to use for other things, all i have to do, is change the front bunk, to fit the hull Vee

Thanks all, that the info i was looking for, was working on around the ton and half mark, Barnet, recon you can go about 10 longer that the 6 meter for the 2.5 hoist, so will be looking around the 6.5-7 mt mark,
Not check engine weights, but presume outboards are lighter the inboard's?

Do not want to sell the "silly looking thing", even thought someone wants to buy it,, i still have a use for it,,,hopefully,,and they do save a lot of hazzel,, 30sec to launch,,, but will agreed, thay look like something that fell of a oil rig

Hi Andy,, not a quick as a Rib,, but did see 22knots on the speedo, using windpower, downhill !! thats quick enought,, problem is, you then have to turn the corner (jybe) !! now thats fun !!!

Phew! That must be something. A few Cowes Weeks ago I was driving along Cowes seafront and the Melges were running back towards the Royal Yacht Squadron. It must have been Force 6 and this one Melges was right close in, really close in. All the guys were cramed in the stern and they caught a sustained gust. My car speedo was reading 30mph and I was just keeping up.

Sometning I will always remember. Amazing. They must have caught up loads of places and I kept thinking 'they are going to hit a rock!'. But they didn't, and when the gust subsided, they were all whooping and giving each other high-5s.

Nothing so big as a 2556, only an 18ft bowrider so she lives on my drive not in the marina.

Gave a few Melges a tow in during the summer so we might have already said hello ?
Guess if it was you though you would have wanted to return to the lift not the harbour pontoon
