Wherever you finish up putting it, try & get it...

Wherever you finish up putting it, try & get it as close to vertical as possible, or at least leave yourself enough hose to turn it vertical when you pump it. Arrows pointing "up".

Primer bulbs are designed to push, not pull....

Primer bulbs are designed to push, not pull. Easier to push the fuel into the filter, than suck it through.
