Might work, but you might just get fed up of impaling yourself on them.
I run (most commonly) 2 Barrus tanks and 2 bladders in mine. It gives a big range, and I have the normal 2 barrus tank...

If it's loose by an inch, I'd leave it where it...
If it's loose by an inch, I'd leave it where it is or you might find a replacement Barrus tank won't fit or it'll pop out on a hot day. You'll still need to strap the tank down even if it's a tight...
