Difficult to picture Mick, to be honest. Have you got a pic? I may be able to point you in the right direction of how to tighten them up. Either way they shouldn't be slack.

In line and not loose. Take the slack out of it...

In line and not loose. Take the slack out of it via the two M10 nuts behind it. Don't be tempted to tighten the threaded cable ends (if that's what you have) ;)
