Not sure if its a common problem but on my DT55...

Not sure if its a common problem but on my DT55 the choke wire was separate from the loom - presumably due to a break in the multicore cable. As above, very easy to test it by bypassing everything...

I was in a similiar position as you last year...

I was in a similiar position as you last year with my DT55. Sold it as spares or repairs and bought a Mariner 75. I would not throw good money after bad. For £1500 you will get something way better...
