Plugs a little bit oily but knew that the premix in tank was a bit rich as ran out of space in tank when filling so could have put 4 more litres...

Where on the carbs would I connect vacuum gauge pipes? I have a carb balancer for a motor bike which shows vacuum so wondering if I can use it to tune carbs.....

Wot timing is spot on 20 btdc
Idle timing was about 5 degrees btdc and offer to be 3 atdc so adjusted the stop.
Carbs all open at wot.

I thought 40 was pretty good. I was against a tidal flow of about 6 knots at least and had about 35 kgs fuel in front of boat and a 10ft surfboard...

Will check fuel pump and primer bulb. I did have a look at fuel filter while on river and filter was full all the time so to my knowledge this shows the pump is ok as fuel pulled through constantly....

I drained and cleaned the tanks a few days before using.the carbs got cleaned 6 months ago and not started or filled so carbs dry.
That's why I was expecting it to work.

Thanks Spartacus, I will look out for those manuals. I have heard some of them aren't accurate so don't want to end up making engine worse.

tohatsu 50hp timing and carb setup

Hello boaters.

I have a tohatsu 2 stroke 50hp 3 cylinder, on a zapcat.
Its actually mariner badged with gas tilt but identical engine under hood to my second engine which is the tohatsu badged...

i have the same setup, but a mariner badged 40hp 1985 2 stroke twin.
I have similar problems but can get mine to plane by feeding the power in gently.
are you running the boat with 2 people in...

i am favouring the 1985 engine as its 65kg and the newer one is 75kg, which is just too much to move around.

Also the newer one as a much larger transom bracket and wont fit...

screwfix do a tester for £16.99 and it has 12mm, 14mm, (the one for most outboard plugs) 16, and 18mm

just got one today but not used it yet.
