Spare engine

I have a 5.8m Tornado. Can anyone tell me the minimum size of spare engine to put on in case of emergency? Not sure that my family would appreciate paddling if the main one packs up.

I appreciate the comments about GPS. I have been using a little compass to navigate round mountains for years and wouldn't suggest that anyone venturing into the hills shouldn't know how to use one...

I am currently sitting through night classes on Day Skipper theory.
Unfortunately, the instructor seems to believe that Powerboat and GPS are rude words.
Can ribs be driven to the accuracy of this...

I've only been out twice on Windermere and using a handheld GPS found the top speed to be 32...
